Bottle from Hopduvel shared by Craftmember. Light lacing, deep mocha coloured, thin head over an jet black beer with barely visible chestnut colour on the edges. Powerful and attractive aroma of old dusty cocoa powder, dry pipe tobacco, mocha ice cream, liquorice, chestnuts, meat broth, burnt wood, chocolate sauce, vanilla, espresso. Soft baked banana and candied fig sweetness in onset surrounded by well-dosed blackberry sourishness and cured meat ’umaminess’, soft carbo fitting well with the thick, viscous, oily mouthfeel; deep and big caramelly, nutty and bittersweet chocolatey maltiness with coffeeish roasted bitterness in the end, some peppery hops providing final structure, and so does an otherwise well-hidden gin-like alcohol warmth; ends long, deliciously coffeeish and bittersweet, complex and rewarding. Quite and impressive example of the style indeed. Recently had it from tap at Gollem too, where the aroma was more or less the same, but the taste seemed sweeter (almost like a very heavy milk stout), with less roasted bitter intensity, and creamier, but equally impressive for sure.

re-rated 3.02.17: Clear dark brown pour with a very tall tan head with excellent retention. Notes of roasted coffee beans as well as cold brewed coffee, piney hops, roasted malts, caramel, milk chocolate and instant coffee on the post-taste. Damn good, as good as I remember it. Medium to full body, medium to low carbonation and a sweet finish. One of my favourite coffee stouts out there, since I am a big coffee drinker. This is the beer that most resembles drinking an actual coffee. Bottle from Stone in Asagaya. Pours a dark, deep brown with a huge brown head that leaves a nice rim around the glass and gorgeous lacing. Big aromas of milk chocolate syrup, cacao, roasted espresso with some light wood character as well. Taste lives up to the nose, with a little bit of fruity sourness that rears its head as well (prune?). From old notes. First time I had this was from tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. I had it again some times from tap and from bottle. Black color with brown head. Roasted malty aroma, lot of coffee, some chocolate, light dark fruits. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma, with vanilla and mocha notes. Full creamy body with soft carbonation.

Bottled 375ml. -from Svijet Piva Zagreb. Deep black coloured, medium sized brown head, coffee and wood in the nose. Roasted malt, heavy but pleasant coffee, light chocolate and notes of hops with roasted coffee and discreet touch of alcohol in the finish. Decent IS.
