Armand’4 Herfst Oude Geuze is a blend of 1, 2 and 3 year old Lambic, brewed, aged, blended and bottled by Armand Debelder. This one-time and possibly the last bottling comes in a fancy Asti Spumante Champagne bottle. Armand only used Challenger hops in this brew. He’s in fact the only lambic-brewer to use Challenger hops to make his Geuze. 60 % malted barley, 40 % wheat, aged hops and water. Each season’s geuze has an unique and different blend.

Bottle shared with the Kernel crew. Very hazy amber beer, big cream tan head. Light crisp palate. Pretty sour, starting to induce some involuntary squinting. A little lemon and mild wood. Some sweetish worcester sauce. Finishes crisp and dry. Okay but just a shade too sour for me.

Bottle on the Eurostar to Brussels as part of my Pre-Wedding Celebrations. It pours cloudy orange, with a thick white head. The nose is TCP, tart green apple, coconut, oily brazil nut, lactic acid and some spice. The taste is tart green apple, zingy lemon, unripe gooseberry, white currant, white grape, lactic acid, coconut, touch of alcohol warmth and sherbet appearing later, with a crisp, clean finish. Medium body, champagne-like carbonation and velvety mouth-feel. Delicious and very well balanced. Brilliant.

750ml bottle pours a hazy, very dark orange with a very frothy white head. Nose is different, definitely a fall inspured gueze. There’s clearly some squash in the nose, faint nutmeg, plenty of gueze aromas, horsey, grassy, pumpkin. Flavor is sweet, root vegetables, pumpkin, grassy, light malt, some vinegar, some light pie spices, almost like a batch of gueze that had a pumpkin beer poured in. Full bodied, acetic finish. Really interesting. A different, unique, inspiring take on the style.
