Allagash House is brewed in the tradition of Belgian house beer—lower-ABV brews made for the brewers themselves to enjoy after work. The aroma has hop-derived pear and grapefruit notes, while House’s smooth malt flavor is balanced by light hop bitterness. For sale at the brewery only.

Pours slightly hazed gold into a tulip. Bright white head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Meadow aromas. Crisp with hay and funk upfront turning to funky pith in lasting finish.

Bottle from the brewery that pours a clean golden colour with a big creamy, warm cap, very long lasting with some great lacing. The next pour hazes the beer. Sweet aromas at first of peaches with the Belgian Ale yeast that takes over, showing the pear notes. Some citrus as well. The taste shows the yeast with mild grass, pear and banana flavours. All is well-balanced to make this a very nice, table, house, light Belgian ale. Well done!.

On tap at Allagash, pours a hazy blonde with a small white head. Nose is very estery, with lots of banana, light spicy yeast and some dough. Flavour is along the same lines, with a definite banana note upfront, followed by light spicy yeast and dough. Too banana-y and estery for me. Meh.

Sample at the brewery taproom. Slightly hazy dark golden color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing. Aroma of yeast, spice, banana and malt. Light-bodied with flavors of Belgian yeast, clove, banana and malt. The finish is fruity with a yeast aftertaste. Above average overall.

12 oz bottle. Pale gold beer. Somewhat cloudy. Medium sized white head, lots of lacing. The aroma fresh, sweet grain and a lightly fruity Belgian yeast. Bready, doughy malt sugariness. The yeast profile has some nice apricot/raisin/grape fruitiness but it stays pretty clean. I can see how it would be good with food. Light earthy hoppiness with mild bitterness keeps the taste fairly clean. Mildly sweet. Very easy to drink. Light on the palate. Not exciting but solid, so I’d say they hit their mark.

Draft at the brewery, 7/26/16. Hazy yellow pour. Bright yeasty aroma, with spice, lemon zest, bready malts, and dough. Flavor follows suit. Very drinkable and thist quenchingly refreshing. Bright. Great, flavorful, clean session beer.
