12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market, Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear copper color with a frothy offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Nice looking beer. Aroma of caramel, floral hops, nutty notes. Taste is caramel and nutty notes with an earthy finish. Medium bodied.

Light chestnut brown color, see-through, with a thin and creamy light tan head. Aroma of butterscotch and malt, slight pepper in the background. Tastes of scotch, malt and caramel. Medium body. Not a bad beer, easy to drink.

12 oz bottle. Never used to be a fan of Irish Ales (probably due to Killian’s), but these maltier styles are growing on me. Aroma is of roasted molasses. Color is deep, deep red. Tastes of mostly malt, little hop presence. Better than I was expecting.

Location: Most recently had this beer a few weeks back at a bar in Manhattan, but it's one I usually wind up drinking at least once every few months.
Overall Impression: One of my go-to beers at bars that don't have a ton of selection, I really like how nicely this beer drinks, smooth, and with some nice character as well. I like this beer a lot under the right circumstances.

On Tap. Pours with a copperish-brown body with a surprisingly resilient off-white head. Aroma of toast, grain caramel and nuts. Taste is lightly hoppy with toast and caramel. Watery mouthfeel, medium carbonation.

Draught at Detroit Airport. Chestnut with a thin white head; caramel malt aroma; dry nutty malts to start, then sweet and fruity balanced with a reasonable bitterness. Dirnkable, but I didn’t accept the offer of another one.

[on tap at O’Naill’s, Reading] I’m sure ABV was 4.5%, but I could be wrong. Poured a deep chestnut brown with a small but lasting creamy head. Quite unusual to have a keg (ie non-cask-conditioned) nowadays that hasn’t been nitro’d - which is a shame as this clearly had far more flavour than the nitro’d Caffrey’s sold alongside it. In actual fact, for a keg ale, this is pretty decent - some brown sugar sweetness and plenty of malt followed by a fulfilling earthy hop bitterness. Nicely balanced, smooth and easy to drink. My only criticism would be a slight metallic note that came through in the aftertaste - but even this was far less pronounced than in other keg beers. I wonder just how good this beer could get if Diageo could be bothered to cask condition it...
