Bottle: Pours rubied-brown with small, light tan head. Tangy caramel....chocolate, spicy orange aroma. Taste is bready, orange-peel, cocoa. Herbal, tingly hops. Very different....OK, but not exactly what I’d imagined.

From the April 2014 3R6P gathering. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark nut brown color with orange highlights and a medium sized foamy beige head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was odd, somewhat malty, almost molasses with an orange presence. The flavor was malty, woody, sour orange, caramel, tobacco and something off. Medium length finish. Medium body. Very weird and not particularly good.

Sample at the Beers from the Bikes Villes tasting on 11/08/2013. The beer is a slightly murky brown color with a medium thick foamy light beige head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, chocolate and citrus. Medium-bodied with flavors of roasted malt, cocoa and citrusy hops. The finish is moderately bitter piney hops with a chocolatey aftertaste. Decent overall.

Location: Draft at the Brewpub, 7/12/13
Aroma: The nose is citrus/orange rind and some roasted malts/chocolate
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a small off-white head and light lace
Flavor: The taste has a nice hop bitterness from the dry citrus rind and some roasted chocolate
Palate: The body is medium, it has a plus carbonation, and a nice, dry finish on the mouth
Overall Impression: Overall, this one did exceed my expectations. It thought the citrus rind and the bitter/roasted chocolate malts worked nicely together. A very solid Black IPA.

Tap at Closed for Business, Charleston. It pours deep reddish mahogany. The nose is fresh pine, orange, mango, candy and cocoa. The taste is roasted malt, toast, earth, cocoa, orange peel, decent bitterness, wood, green grape and alcohol with a dry finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Pretty nice actually. Enjoyable stuff.
