Draft at Catawba Morganton. Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of tan head that lingers. Coffee and vanilla aromas on the nose. Smooth and silky texture on the palate with lingering coffee and creamer notes. Finishes smooth and balanced.

Draft in a shaker glass, opaque dark brown. Roasty coffee aroma, medium body. Roasted grain taste and espresso bitter malt finish. Finish was on the rough side.

Dark brown coloured body with a relatively fast-dying tan head, about two centimetres tall. Aroma of toasted malt, hazlenuts, earth, grain, a light bit of coffee and a dose of caramelised sugars. Light to Medium-bodied; Noticeable malty and caramel flavours with some hazlenuts and grain around as well as some very light brewed coffee, but not too much, especially in terms of a porter. Aftertaste is on the malty side with earth and grain and very little else, aside from sugars and a faint hit of coffee. Overall, a decent beer at best that shows more of a Brown Ale than a porter, and the coffee taste is definitely muted, but this at least shows some complexities, but definitely not on par with some of the better coffee-based beers. Still, sad to say that this is decent to try, given that I'm not in South Carolina often. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Grapevine in Fort Mill, South Carolina on 21-August-2017 for US$1,70 after watching the Eclipse, sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia in Pungoteague, Virginia on 02-September-2017.

From a bottle at the DC tasting July 10, 2016 it is a dark Amber color with a slight head. The aroma is smokey malt and the taste is a strong bitter tasted coffee flavor with a bit of a chili kick
