From the tradition started by the monks of St. Francis of Paula in 1634 comes this warming beer of rich heritage. A dark, rich lager of sublime complexity and character, St. Victorious is created from multiple German malts. Laborious decoction mashing yields the choicest elements of the malt. Long, cold aging mellows the strong temperament of this subtle beer. Celebrate the end of winter with a warming draft of St. Victorious Doppelbock!

Murky orange-red-brown body, medium quickly dissipating buff head. A rare unfiltered doppelbock. Bready, caramely aroma with toffee, prune, and raisin. Plummy, raisiny body with bitter, perfumey notes, caramel, and toast. Sweet aftertaste with alcohol notes. Rich and dense, this is a very tasty doppelbock. Thanks Walt!

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Lightly hazy dark brown with a small, off-white head. Malty, somewhat vinous nose. Fairly full-bodied with sweetish, roasted accents and heaps of malt. Decent all right but fails to impress. 270106

A red beer with a thin orange head. The aroma is sweet with notes of berries and honey, while the flavor is very sweet with notes of wood, cowberries, and honey as well as hints of alcohol.

2005 bottle provided by Radiomgb at the Mondial Ratebeer tasting, 6/4/05. Ruby-garnet-chestnut body. Light tan head recedes to ring, fairly rapidly, with a bit of lacing on the glass. Smells of scotch, peated malt, bordering on smoke, with vinous, winey bock-like yeast, cherries, prunes, tart prune juice. FLavor is heavily bocky, quite true to style I would say. Lightly bitter chocolate notes, oily and winey, with some prunes and cherries and blueberries. Wonderful barley and deep earthy grains, reminiscent of Old Horizontal. Finish is light scotch-whiskey notes. Medium body, some thinning. Fluffy mouthfeel, with no alcohol perceived.

Very well masked alcohol - a little bitter for a doppelbock, but still has its share of malty sweetness - not what I was expecting, but still good - light and easy drinking for the style.
