Hazy IPA with Grapefruit Zest

A handful of fruit varieties pack such appealing aromatics that brewing with them is like cheating. We named our ever-changing series of IPAs “Cheater Fruit” in their honor. We are honest brewers, that’s why we can admit when we cheat!

Had to start off a new series with the Citra of Citrus, aka the OG (Original Grapefruit), the Ruby Thunder... Grapefruit! It plays with the hops, without getting in their way, cutting through the blend of American and New Zealand varieties!

Really even, mild, aromatic but still spunky with no overdone adjunct. I wouldn't necessarily pick it out, but it's there, intensifying the floral and citrusy elements of the hops used. I'd guess there's some Motueka here, and maybe Citra and/or Amarillo. Nothing heavy, nothing resinous, but a strong fruit salad with a dollop of pine oil from the Motueka, with light mineral and light white grape lingering. Fluffy, delicate, gently balancing, honey-like malts.
Citrus-forward, but not dominant. Though there's less Motueka-like character than there was in the nose. Malt is deep but well-attenuated. Lingering floral, citrus juice and mild bitterness helps keep it mostly balanced. Could stand a bit more bitterness, but it's over 3 months old, so I'm giving it a pass there. I think I preferred the berry dryness and acidity of the Krush from Cheater Hops 32 more than I like the overall citrusy fruit salad of this, but this is by no means a slouch.
