12 oz bottle from Beer of the Month club. Seems to be the same beer: now labeled as Scotch Ale / 8%, but the description is the same. Reddish to light brown color with a creamy tan head. Smokey, almost burnt taste. Some sweetness as well. Kind of odd and didn't quite work for me.

Shared 12 oz. bottle. Pours a brownish copper with a beige head. Head was initially fizzy. Aroma is quite malty with some sweet caramel notes.. Taste is plastic, malt, light smoke, and alcohol with a strong medicinal quality. Drain pour.

16 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 5/30/2011. Pours lightly hazy dark red amber color with a nice 1 finger fairly dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big caramel, raisin, toast, molasses, toffee, dark bread, peat, wood, light smoke, light chocolate, scotch, floral, and earthy spiciness. Damn nice aromas with good complexity and balance. Taste of caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, raisin, peat, wood, bread, light smoke, floral, scotch, and earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, raisin, molasses, bread, peat, floral, scotch, and earthy spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance of flavors with some great complexity; with zero cloying sweetness present on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent scotch ale! Nice balance and great flavor complexity; and very smooth to sip on. Really enjoyed this one, very well done.

The bartender at Sprecher said this tasted like scotch...and she was right. Everything from the earthy/peaty flavors all the way to the smokey finish. Kinda reminded me of a glass of Johnnie Green after all the ice has melted. I would drink this again anytime.

A dark amber ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a smooth peated malt, phenolics, caramel. In mouth, a smooth smokey sweet candy malt, light cinnamon and faint hops, medium bodied. Bottle at Istmus Beer and Cheese Fest, Jan 21 2012.

@GABF-12oz bottle-pours gold with an offwhite head. Aroma and taste are band aid. Gotta rate this again.

Bottle. Prune malt and light alcohol aroma. Cloudy medium orange-brown color with small head. Sweet prune, sour milk, and alcohol flavor. Okay - on the rough side.
