Bottle from Sterk Avondverkoop. Pours hazy copper with a slight beige head. Aroma seems somewhat cola. Med body, almost. Flavor is mildly spicy, roasty malty, perhaps rye spice or similar. It’s a bit sweetish, finishing quite far from dry. Yet it is a decent drink.

0.33 l bottle at Jeronimus café (Den Bosch), best before 18/9/2015. Clear, reddish amber with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, tan head. Sweetish-malty aroma of cane sugar, molasses and honey with hints of raisins. Sweetish-malty taste of raisins, brown sugar, caramel and nuts, followed by a short, slightly bitter finish. Medium body, slightly creamy to oily mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Pleasant, well-balanced, harmonic.

Bottle at Pub Winston. Abv 7 %. Deep ruby color, small off-white head. Berryish, a bit grassy and papery aroma. Medium-bodied. Toffee, berries and alcohol. Some yeastyness too. Quite sweet. Tastes like an ale not like a German style doppelbock.

33 cl. bottle @ the bungalow in Hooghalen, bought @ Mitra Beilen. 2014 version with 7% ABV. Hazy dark amber with a dense off-white head. Fruity and malty aroma with a hint of hops. Not that bitter but very taste nonetheless.

Draft at De Paas. Pours cloudy dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of toffee, butterscotch, some dark fruit, light veggies. Flavour is moderate sweet and over moderate bitter. Really weird mouthfeel, slightly thick and fuzzy but at the same time thin. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

Decent bock beer, body of sweet malt of course, with some fruits and herbs.

Tasty doppelbock. Body of roasted malt, with a note of dark cacao. Some nice herbs and fruits.

Bottle @ home. Clear brown to dark red color (when held into the light), average sized beige head. Smell malts, raisins, lightly roast. Taste malts, dark malts, lightly roasty but that flavor is quickly gone, raisins, quite bitter. Medium to full body, medium carbonation. This beer for me personally would be a 3.3-3.4 score but for a doppelbock -which I don’t really like in general- I think it’s a pretty good beer. I know we’re not intended to rate stylewise, so I won’t do it either. But for people who like this style I think the beer is worth a 3.7 at least.Earlier Rating: 12/31/2012 Total Score: 2.933cl bottle @ home. Clear deep dark red color, small beige to slightly brownish head that diminishes fairly quickly. Smell and taste malts, sweetness, leaves, overripe fruits. Dislike the aftertaste. Low to medium body and carbonation.
