Draft. Deep brown body with a beige head. Aroma of roasted grain, nuts, chocolate. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/velvety texture, moderate carbonation. Slight astringency in the finish. Pleasant brown ale.

Bottle pour into shaker pint glass. Appearance is dark brown with nice sparkle, 1/2-finger width beige head with poor retention. Aroma is brown sugar, caramel. Taste is caramel, malt, earthy bitterness. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with slick texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, a pretty straightforward brown ale but good.

Tap at the STL airport fauxpub. Clear, empty brown color. Just a little charred, caramalized malt nose. That I like. The rest is an empty shell of a style. Just too cookie cutter, all the essence and individuality sucked out to make it an overly simplified yet craft product. Just the right amount of hops, not bitter, not overly malty. Not a thin or thick body. Really an amazingly stunning achievement until you realize its soulless. Like a politician saying all the right things but underneath you know they have sold there soul to the highest bidder. Hmmm... am I overthinking this?

On tap at Bottleworks. Pours a deep brown with a thin head and aromas of leather, cocoa and autumn leaves. Flavor is clean with lots of leather.

Draft poured into a shaker. Drank as "John Brown’s Ale" at John Brown’s Pub. Pours a clear nut brown with about a finger of off-white head. Aroma of pine and roasty malt. Taste is about the same. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, very good. I would gladly drink again.

(Draught at HBF2009) Dark brown and almost clear. Small white head. Malty and lightly roasty aroma. Medium bodied and dry palate with medium carbonation. Malts, roastedness, coffee, bitterness, liquorice and sweetness in taste. Roasty and bitter aftertaste.

Draught@HBF2009. Deep amber colour, small brown head. Aroma is caramel, cookies, maplenuts and some slight syrupy sweetness. Flavour is caramel, mild roast, some chocolate and some toffee. A pleasant tasting brown ale.

Draught@HBF2009. Dark nut brown color, good creamy beige head. A bit nutty, hoppy and caramelly nose. Slightly fizzy. Caramelly, light hoppy notes. Slick short finish. Quite typical brown ale.
