I thought I had tried this before, but I see that I haven’t. Aroma is fairly generic roasted malts, but decent. Opaque brown, with a thin tan head and good lacing. Flavor is a good balance of charred wood and lemon peel, fairly strong. Finish is grass. Very enjoyable.

Draft at Virginia Beer Festival. Interesting to find that this is a brown ale. The pour was nearly black, with a really dark head. Aroma is a little sweet, caramel, and roasted nuts. I really thought that this beer was some kind of porter/stout instead. With that said I thought it was a really solid beer.

Bottle. Rerate in horizontal with the Inaugural Tavern Ale. Dark brown body with a medium creamy tan head. Sweet malty and nutty aroma. Sweet malt flavor, some nuttyness and a touch of chocolate. Original Rating: 6/3/6/3/12 - 3.0 On Tap at Capital Ale House. Clear dark amber body with a small creamy tan head. Sweet caramel and dry malt aroma. Dry caramel and grainy malt flavor.
