Bottle. Chocolate malt and raisin aroma. Dark brown with small head. Slightly sweet chocolate, raisin, and mildly bitter grass hops flavor. Very nice.

Received in trade from mdaschaf, thanks for the opportunity. Pours a deep reddish brown color with a moderate sized off white head. Smells of caramel and chocolate with a hint of mineral and ash. Taste follows the smell really well. A bit of mineral watered caramel, raisin, and chocolate with a hint of earthy mineral in the finish. Medium to thin body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet chalky mouthfeel. Middle of the road brown ale with hints of flavor. :) I would have loved a bit more body on this one.

12oz bottle. Deep, dark brown-black, a hint of red. Thin beige head. Smooth nutty chocolate aroma. Somewhere between medium and full bodied. Really quite nicely done, very malt centered, not much hops going on beside some upfront spicy bitterness, true to style I suppose. A really solid Brown Ale, something you see less and less of these days.

This brew pours a mostly clear dark amber-brown color with a medium thin light beige head that dissipates to an outer ring. Top ring of lacing with spots underneath. Chocolate malt aroma with notes of hops in the background. Medium, smooth body with flavors of roasted malt, chocolate and hops. The finish is sweet chocolate and caramel with a short malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle. Pours brown with a large head. Smells of sweet malts. Brown ale flavor, with a sweet tinge and an extreme bitter finish. This is pretty tasty... wasn’t sure how I felt about this at first, but I like it.

Deep rich brown coloured body with a thin tan head. Aroma of plums, raisins, malt, brown sugar and a touch of cherries. Medium-bodied; Assertive hops up front in the taste with some metallic tastes and a bit bitter nuttiness at the tail end. Aftertaste shows raisins, caramel and toffee. Overall, a good beer - perhaps a bit more complex than most browns, but also showing more sugars and less nuts. A good beer to try, but not amazing, still. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Falls Church (Tyson’s Corner), Virginia on 13-February-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 01-March-2009.

12 oz bottle from Vintage Cellar. Pours a dark mahogany with a decent beige/tan head. Smells like nutty roasted malt. Near medium body with frothy carbonation. Has that brown ale sour touch, with gritty roasted caramel. Possibly a bit smoky in the finish, or maybe a light stroke of coffee. Pretty good drink.

Thanks to dkachur. Pours dark murky brown and with a small quickly fading head that turns a hairline halo lacing. Aroma is nicely light tangerine hops, light esters, and some light soft biscuit malt. Its like a "regular" brown with some sharp fruit and hops, which is really nice. Taste is similar with less sharpness and less of the felt maltiness. But its fine that way, just a quaffable no nonsense brown. A really good beer... for a brown ale.

Bottle from the brewery. Pours dark reddish brown with no head to speak of. Aroma of caramel and hair salon (I guess thats the hops?) Taste is a little metallic, but does have nice notes of honey and chocolate. Not a bad everyday beer.

12oz bottle-pours a dissipating tan head and dark brown color. Aroma is dark malt-chocolate. Taste is roasty, dark malt-chocolate, some bitter/metallic hops bite. Medium body. OK carbonation.
