Treehorn - 10ºP Coolship Czech Style Pale Lager - 4.0% ABV - collaboration with Human Robot. Once it was made official that Wayward would host this years iteration of Logjammin’, we immediately knew we had to make something extra special to celebrate the occasion, and what better than low ABV Czech style pale lager; something both breweries have hung their hat on, and maybe the perfect thirst quencher for one of the most coveted events of the year. Andrew and the team at Human Robot aren’t your average brewers; their unique approach and commitment to quality is something we deeply respect. We knew we had to go outside the norm for this momentous occasion. We landed onto a unique grist of Tchecomalt floor malted Pilsen, Vienna, and wheat malts, that would supply enough color and character to make this small 10ºP beer drink like something bigger than it is. We then applied an enhanced double decoction on our direct fire kettle, which lends a noticeable caramelization to the wort. Through the boil we layered in our favorite Czech Saaz at multiple points prior to sending the entirety of the batch to our coolship upstairs for a hot steep on whole leaf Willamette. After a brief hold in the coolship, the clarified wort was sent back downstairs into a fermentation vessel for a cool fermentation with our house Czech lager stain. After spunding the beer to achieve velvety smooth natural carbonation, and lagering for several weeks, we deemed the beer ready for package. Treehorn delivers everything you want from Czech pale lager. Deep malt character, subtle esters, and a bold noble hop presence, with a kiss of American modernity derived from the subtly citrusy and grassy whole cone Willamette. Svelte and clean, while still delivering medium full body. For the love of Lagerbier 💚.

Oh yeah, that smells phenomenal! As I'm pouring there's just mineral-rich, herbal hop pouring from the liquid. Soft, heathery florals and dainty honey-like malts complete the picture. Clean, bright, zesty and charming.
Lots of cracker and biscuit with the zestiness coming rather late on the end; lots of herbal hop and pleasing bitterness. Up front, it's just a touch bland/biscuity/bready. Still, that nose is fantastic and the finish is excellent. Beer shows good texture and attenuation. Just need a bit more expressive, softer, dare I say sweeter, maltiness.
