A Black India Pale Ale featuring New Zealand Pacific Gem hops. The flavor of Pacific Gem is known for having tones of oak and woody offsets. Pacific Gem has its oils in balance and it is highly favored for aromatic qualities. The bouquet is fruity and closely resembles blackberries. The base IPA grain bill includes Pale malt, wheat, Vienna, Munich and debittered black malts, while the Pacific Gem has created a unique flavor and aroma resulting in a very interesting IPA.

10oz pour at Churchkey DC. Pours a watery, mahogany brown with some fluffy, lacing, white head. Nose is a mix of malt and citrus, cracker, light toast, some rubber, grapefruit peel, lime, some soap. Flavor is malty, cracker, smoke, toast, orange pith, soap, pepper, a strange rubber flavor. Medium bodied, dry, astringent finish.

On tap at Bailey's Taproom, pours a deep dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma of lightly roasted malt, and mild hop notes - not much on the nose. Flavour of mildly bitter hops, though very restrained, along with toasted malts and some lactic qualities. Not as strong or flavourful for a black IPA, but drinkable enough. Decent.

Draft at the source. Very dark brown color, tan head, solid lacing. Aroms is slightly roasty. Taste is roasted coffee and pine. Not bad, would like more aroma.
