Lightning Strikes Twice! First brewed in 2011, Our DOUBLE American Black Ale turns this new style into a true force of nature. Double Black Lightning is a category five hurricane of roasted malt precariously balanced by a supercell of American hops. Twice the flavor of our Black Lightning American Black Ale, backed by a strong 7.7% abv for double the intensity. Tear the top off and hold on tight; lightning is about to strike twice.

Bottle: Poured a black color ale with a quite large foamy dark brown head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of green bitter hops with light dry roasted malt notes. Taste is also dominated by dry bitter roasted malt with light green bitter hops notes. Body is quiet full with medium carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well brewed with nice grassy/green hops notes but maybe a bit too much astringency in the aftertaste.

Bomber shared by Butters at the 17th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 1/28/12. Pours a clear dark reddish brown color with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of big chocolate notes, peppery hops, roasted malts and nutty notes. The taste is bitter herbal and vegetal hops, roasted malts and caramel. Medium-full bodied. Decent.
