It is a Belgian-style Pale Ale with an American twist. It is brewed with pale, caramel, and wheat malts, and hopped with centennial and Cascade hops to give it a distinctly American character. The medium bodied beer has a crisp palate and moderate bitterness coupled with the fruity esters from the abbey yeast strain. It is bottle and keg conditioned so expect a tall fluffy head and a small amount of sediment. Recipe by brewer, Jeff Musselman.

This is one of Weyerbacher’s better beers. Cloudy copper color and a good sized white head that laces the glass. Mild hops and Belgian yeast in the aroma. Flavor has more hops, but clearly a Belgian character from the yeast and malt profile. Sweet and bitter. A winner.

Pours cloudy orangish color with off white head. Aromas of Belgian yeast and floral hops. Flavors of bread dough and spices with a hoppy finish. Medium body with average carbonation.

Pours amber into a tulip. Head quickly dissipates to hug rim. Chamomile and alcohol aromas. Slightly astringent honey and biscuit with a lasting, dry hop finish.

Slightly hazy copper tinted amber coloured body with a very dense and thick three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of honey, yeast, coriander seed, wheat, nutmeg and even a dash of bananas. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong assertive yeast taste with wheat backbones and a very mild curacao and sweet taste near the end. Aftetaste shows more of the yeast with a bit of the hops and malt giving a bitter, dry kick at the end. Overall, a pretty decent belgian abbey, a bit less strong than a trip, but showing a lot of those same characteristics. I enjoyed this - but like the real ones from Belgium a bit more - still not a bad beer from the states! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington, DC on 25-July-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 17-September-2009.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a hazy dark orange amber color with a large frothy head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma is herbal and floral with light fruity notes including banana and apple. Some spice as well. Taste is bready and hoppy with spice, banana and a leafy finish. Creamy mouthfeel, full bodied. Good beer.

bottle. Pours light orange, white head. Aroma citrus / lemongrass become svery apparent, hops with some yeasty notes. Flavor, fruity; possibly some pear and white raisins, yeasty, some citrus hops. Light yeasty finish.

Cloudy and almost murky because of the sediment from the bottom of the bottle. starts off pale yellow then goes almost brown. Smells a little sweet and raw bread yeasty. Nice lacing thru the session. Initial taste is trying to be strong but never quite gets there. Carbonation is fairly good. Some vanilla and spice with a slight medium bitter background. Hints of medicinal bitterness on the back of the throat on the finish. How can this be in the same style as Orval? Who knows.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright orange-amber color with a huge creamy peach-white head that produced lots of lacing. The aroma was hoppy with notes of grapefruit and lemon and had a lingering pepper spiciness. The flavor was very dry and musty with a strong bitter floral and fruity hop presence and notes of sugar and yeastiness underneath. The finish was medium length dry floral hops and mustiness. medium body. Disappointing.

Bottle thanks to Cletus. Pours with a large, creamy tan head over a hazy golden orange body. Great Belgium lace. Aroma of coriander, hops, spice, dryness, bread and raisiny. Taste is dry and bitter with spicy hops, earthy and a bit of coriander. Mouthfeel is dry, bone dry.
