Brimming with darkly roasted malts, this mocha-topped stout features hints of coffee and chocolate. The addition of Vermont grown organic oats adds to the unfiltered, full bodied experience.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a small creamy beige head that lasts awhile leaving sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a roasted malt and alcohol and cherry. Thin mouthfeel and a bit watery on the palate with a sweet malt and chocolate and nice bitter finish. Easy to drink, a good sweet stout from Otter Creek.

12 oz bottle. Nice oatmeal flavor. Not much head, no lacing. Nut smell along with the oatmeal in the aroma. Prominent as well in the flavor and finish. A slight hint of coffee in there along with toffee on the finish. Mouth feel is watery. When I drink an oatmeal stout I would expect it to be a bit thicker. Overall a pretty good. Nothing to seek out but a good choice depending on your selection.

Cask at Blind Tiger. Stellar beer. Poured a luscious black with a thick tan head. Nose of roasty malts and some light cocoa and coffee. Flavor was tight, mostly roasted malts with some great vanilla notes on the tail. (The casks for Blind Tiger were special in that they had vanilla beans added to them at some point during the brewing process.) Nice, burnt malt finish. Rich flavor without being overbearing on the abv. This would make an extreme sessioner. Cheers.

Bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Chocolate brown pour with a quickly disappearing head. Very malty coffee/chocolate aroma. Taste is bitter chocolate, roasted malt and finally the sweetness from the oats and a hint of mocha. Medium bodied.

This oatmeal stout poured a deep black colour with a fast head of tan colour. To the nose there are scents of roasted malt, cocoa, yeast and coffee. First taste was smooth with just the right carbonation. Flavours of coffee, burnt malt and slight cocoa are strongest. Finish is instant coffee and the palate is slightly bitter with a dry lingering taste.

On tap at the Stogie and Stout event, 2008 edition. Pours deep deep amber but not really opaque with garnet edges and big big mocha head (first pour of the keg). The aroma is roasty semi sweet with a good dose of oatmeal twang. This is followed up by mild burnt malts. Overall the aroma is on the mild side. The initial mouth feel is rich and creamy thanks to the oatmeal. Yum. Roasty to burnt malts are noticed up front almost bold porter like in itβs roasty burntness. Midway the oatmeal twang intercedes as the burnt to near dark roasted coffee rides out into the finish and after taste. Pleasing roasty brew.
