Reviewed from notes. This was consumed October of 2012.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance had a nice black color with a gentle level white to off white foamy head that rose upward above the glass and never poured over but just looked like a beauty of a mountain hovering above my glass. The lacing was somewhat thick and clingy.
The smell had a nice blend of roasty coffee to sweet citrusy pine.
The taste had a great bitter roasted coffee bean to sweet citrusy pine again.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat sharp and invasive to my mouth.
Overall, pretty good black ale but worthy of having again if MBC and Lawson’s ever got together to do this again.

Bottle @ home during my #5,000 tick fest, courtesy of Lukaduke I believe. Pours a deep black appearance with a dark brown, frothy head. Minty/sprucey, rich dark cocoa, light vanilla aroma. Fairly piney/sprucey, very rich dark chocolate, fairly herbal, richly herbal hoppy flavor with a lot of chocolate and mint on the finish. One of the best Black IPAs I’ve ever had, in all honestly.

I’m guessing this is the right version, only because there are no ratings for the other version. Bottle at Churchkey labeled as Maine Beer and Lawson’s Finest. Maroon brown color, beige head, solid lacing. Aroma of coffee, pine, dark milk chocolate. Taste is roasty coffee grounds. Well done!

A clear deep dark IPA with a thick frothy and lacing brown head. In aroma, beautiful fragrant piney hops with fir tree, coffee grinds, smooth and well balanced. In aroma, a nice smooth sweet chocolate with piney and floral hops, mocha coffee, grainy rye notes, very nice and pleasant. Bottle from Healthy Living, 6.99$. Tasted August 2 2012.
