Dark brown pour with a medium thick foamy beige head that recedes gradually. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, vanilla and chocolate. Medium-bodied with flavors of sweet chocolate, vanilla, roast malt and slight cinnamon. The finish is sweet with a vanilla mocha aftertaste. Above average overall.

On tap at the bocktown. Dark pour with a tan head. Barely any aroma but there is a tad of this mild beery thing hitting my olfactory. First taste is stronger but has lots of chocolate or malt in there. Chocolately feel fer sure. This stuff was way too expensive for what it is. Finish is lots like choco flavored medicine. wew. Not impressed.

22 oz. bottle. Dark brown, with a thin, bubbly, tan head. The aroma is malted cocoa, pine, toffee, and molasses. Very sweet throughout, with very faint bitterness in the finish. Heavy body, sticky, and a little dry in the finish. Overall, this is a smooth, chocolaty, malty beer. Very nice.

22oz bottle. Deep brown black body, thinnish beige head. Pleasant vanilla-cinnamon-chocolate aroma. Rich, but quite drinkable, with a pronounced vanilla and cocoa nib edge. Smooth on the palate, quite a well executed offering. Big flavors, lots of depth, but not a mess at all, well balanced and concise. Good stuff!

Sampled on draft at the Zeno’s in State College this beer poured a very dark brown color - almost black with nutty highlights and a medium sized foamy tan head that faded quickly and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was vanilla, Dr Pepper, nut and cinnamon toast. The flavor was nutty cocoa, licorice, cola, strong vanilla and faint cinnamon toast. Very long finish of vanilla, cola and cinnamon toast. Moderately full bodied. Odd but interesting.

Shared from a 22 oz bottle at home. Pours a dark murky brown with almost no head. Cinnamon dominates the nose. The cinnamon takes more of a back seat in the flavor, with cocoa coming through front and center.

Pours an opaque body under a tan head. Soft aroma of spicy chocolate and vanilla. The flavor is vanilla ice cream sprinkled with a dusting of cinnamon. Chocolate on the back makes this very nice.

Doing a side by side tasting with the Shmaltz version. Appearance - T: dark caramel color with thin tan head. S: a little darker brown than the Terrapin version with a larger tan head. Aroma - T: mostly chocolate, vanilla and toasted malts with some caramel and cinnamon. S: similar aromas to the Terrapin but with cinnamon being more dominant. Flavor: T: toasted malts, chocolate and caramel with some vanilla, cinnamon and nuttiness. S: cinnamon, toasted malts and chocolate with some vanilla and nuttiness. Mouthfeel - T: medium body with average carbonation. S: medium body with softer carbonation and creamier mouthfeel than the Terrapin. Overall I liked the Terrapin version better.
