This beer tells the story of William, Duke of Guelders, and the (re)build and fortification of the city of Elburg. It's a high ABV and richly flavoured beer, just like the kind of beer that was served in the Guelderian court. But this one is probably a bit higher in ABV and has a darker colour.
We also want to highlight the fact that Elburg is a Hanseatic city by using almonds in this beer, something often traded in these cities in the 14th century. The city was also an important fishing port on the Zuiderzee with eel as one of the more common species of fish to be found in Elburg back then. It is still a special local dish these days. We tried to recreate a bit of the smoked eel taste in the beer by adding smoked malt, salt and (black) garlic, something that goes really well with smoked eel.
Ingredients: Water, Barley (Maris Otter, Dark Crystal, Special B, Peated malt, Roasted Barley, Carafa III, Mroost 1400), Oats, Maltodextrin, Hops, Black Garlic, Almonds, and Yeast (Nottingham).

Fles via Keukenman, geprobeerd met Roelzie. Het is een diep donkerbruin tot zwart bier met een medium bruinig schuim. Het heeft een aroma van gebrande mout en rook. De smaak is vol gebrande mout, rook en chocolade.
