This beer is one of Red Rock’s summertime favorite. A ’Rauch Beir’ translates in German as ’smoked beer’, drying malt over an open flame imparting a smoky character to the malt.

GABF 2015. I did not like this nearly as much as the as the Joseph James smoked beer I tried immediately before. Light red color. Lighter smoke aroma. Flavor seems a little metallic, iron, blood, rare meat. This is ok, the aroma was better than the flavor.

GABF 2013. I stopped by Red Rock to try their Zwickelbier, but this turned out to be my favorite of their offerings. Pours a golden orange appearance with a creamy brown head. Big meaty, ham smoked aroma with some caramel sweetness and Noble hops. Not overly sweet flavor packed with a touch of peat, tons of smoked bacon, and burnt wood. Fucken chill brew.

A nice clean beer. The right amounts of smoke in the aroma and taste, not overpowering.
