Somersault Ale was designed to be a fun roll around on the tongue while requiring only the minimum of palate gymnastics. In other words, this perfect summer lounge around beer is ridiculously fun and easy to drink. Even though the second Somersault goes down as effortlessly the first, our brewer Grady actually has quite a few remarkable notes at play in the nose, flavor and mouthfeel. There is an opening brace of citrus aroma from Centennial hops, a soft apricot fruitiness tucked into the flavor, a fresh snap from a sliver of ginger root, finished with oats in a long cool mash. Color is blonde with a suggestion of cloudiness. Somersaults all around!

Bottle. Fruity apricot and grapefruit hops aroma. Gold with a moderate off white head good lacing. Biscuity malt, fruity citrus, and light grassy bitter flavor. Light crisp body. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I was really surprised at how drinkable this was..

From tap at Blue Palms. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is fruity and crisp hoppy, citrusy and peachy. Bitter, smooth fruity and lingering hoppy. Light.

Crisp golden coloured body with a slight copper glow and a thinnish, half a centimetre tall white head. Aroma of pale malt, some metal, a bit of sugar and a very small amount of discernible hops. Light-bodied; Sharp metallic malty note with a bit of flowers, some grassy tastes, a bit of yeast and a good amount of very light and subtle german hops. Aftertaste is airy and light, but showing some decent flavours and nothing bitter or offensive. Overall, a decent light, summer beer that deviates from the wheat lineup - in a good way. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 23-May-2012 for US$1.79 sampled at home in Washington on 16-July-2012.

Aroma: The nose has some grass, a good amount of fruit, light dough, bread, and a touch of spice
Appearance: It pours a clear golden color with a thick, lasting foam of white head and medium lacing
Flavor: The taste is medium-plus sweet, some spice, grassy hops, and just a little bit of sour/funkiness
Palate: The body is medium and it has a somewhat unexpected (but hard to describe why) feel to it
Overall Impression: This one was not what I was expecting. It is a pretty interesting beer. It drinks pretty nicely, and it has some summery qualities to it, but at the same time, it isn't your typical summer beer.

Whole Foods, P st, sixer ($10): Pours a really pale gold with a small white head. Aroma is citrus hops and a bit of malt. Taste is slightly bitter. Some underlying sweetness is going on up in there. Some citrus-like acidity going on in there. Refreshing and easy-drinking.

Draft: Light lemon zest nose. Clear amber, medium head. Lemon and buttercup flavor, malty finish. Very weak even for the style. Alcohol well masked, refreshing. Good balance and transitions, just needs a smidge more intensity.

Pours clear medium yellow with a tall, long lasting sticky white head. Sweet grassy aroma. Light sweetness on the front, some dryness on the back. Some astringency.

bottle - Pours mostly clear golden with a one finger white head. It has a light, citrusy aroma and a mild, sweet malt taste with a hint of fruit and a touch of hops bitterness. It’s light bodied and overall just okay.

imperial pint at Claddagh Pub. Filtered yellow-tan, frothy off-white head. Medium to light bodied. Lemon herb tones. Creamy, fresh, light hop balance. An easy, simple summer ale.
