A light tan head forms over this opaque black bodied brew. The aroma is one of light roast mats. Just a touch of bitterness in the flavor along with the expected roast malt flavors. Smooth, but it could be a bit creamier.

courtesy of hwwty4. Pours deep black with coffee/tan head. Aroma, light malts with chocolate, oat and roasted malts. Taste, roasted malts with hints of coffee and oats, light bitter chocolate and hops. Leave a lingering bitter palate feel. Bitter chocolate finish. Was really expecting something better.

Courtesy of CigarCityBrew. Pours deep garnet with mocha head. The aroma is roasty to dark roasted malts leaning toward burnt malts and some biscuit. The taste is roasty moving more in the direction of mild malt astringency. Then thereβs also notes of caramel and chocolate blending into sweet malts and dark roastiness. The roasted malts grow in strength as it is warmed and more of it is consumed. I didnβt really notice the signature creaminess the oatmeal tends to bring along.

Bottle from the Beer Geek. Opaque black color with a decent light tan head. Sweet aroma of dark toasted malt. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is sweet toasted malt with a little bitterness. Very pleasing. Finish is a bit sweet, but I guess that fits the style. It’s really good to drink.

12 ozer from acknud!! Nose of Cheerios (oats), coffee, and light chocolate and roasty notes; clear very dark brown with a medium beige head; flavor has oats, coffee, chcolate, and very light hop bitterness at the end! Would be a great session brew if I lived in the Saint Louis area, like I drink El Toro Negro OS here!

Bottle. A thick and cola colored body supports a tan head. Aromas are of sweet oats with some chocolate. Flavor has some really nice moments and was much more enjoyable than I expected. Starts off with a touch of a chocolate & soy sauce type malty bitterness and then transitions to a creamy and oaty moment only to end with a bit of a cola-like zing in the aftertaste. Maybe it is a freshness thing and I get them without the perils of shipping while in St. Louis, but I feel like Schlafly gets a pretty bum rap.
