Climb on in and grab a paddle. Our first foray into lagered beers, Blue Paddle Pilsener-Lager, is a Czech style pilsener with a refreshing crispness from noble hops and a rich, malty finish. Blue Paddle refers to the implement our warehouse manager's Grandma once used to lovingly paddle his a** when she caught him stealing sips of her beer. With more body than a traditional Belgian pils, Blue Paddle is reflective of Europe’s finest pilseners.

On tap at St. Augustine's, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out crisp crackery malt and grassy hops. Flavour is crisp, with grassy hops, biscuity malt and bready notes. Clean and decently balanced. Solid.

Tap at Antenna. Nice biscuit malt nose, noble hops. A bit sweet, biscuity, cream, with herbs a light bitterness. A good fresh pils. Not so exciting, but good enough.

Draft - Light orange and citrus notes. Clear gold with a rich white head. Light grains and citrus with a touch of peel. Nice beer, but a bit more citrus than in any Euro pils o have had.

Many thanks to Chris for this bottle! Smooth mild but nice bittered. Czech-typical sweetish mild. The bitterness is intense, dry-mild in the end. Round and fresh, easy to drink. Nice copy of this Czech style!

Bottle thanks to Kyle! Pours a clear gold with near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of grain and bread with a touch of straw. Flavor has a good amount of sweet grains and straw with a touch of grass.

Bottle. Pours a clear straw yellow. Thin, but lasting, head with some good retention. Aroma is grainy & grassy with a bit of lemon in there. Taste is similar with a crisp mild bitterness in the finish.

Stamped on the bottom of the can, it reads \"23 Nov 2014.\" Given the date, I’m assuming that this is a best by date which is New Belgium’s style.
I poured this into a pilsener. The previous two cans were consumed out of the can.
The appearance was a hazy golden yellow color with a slight transparency about it to allow light streams of carbonation to be seen rising. Three finger white foamy head dissipated leaving a messy sort of lacing.
The smell had a sweet grassy and grainy sort of sweet corn malt to eventually allow a really nice sweet lemon to come in.
The taste was mainly the sweet grassy and grainy corn. The lemon was no where to be found in the flavor.
On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a pretty good sessionability about it. The carbonation was substantially good for the style and for me as it was there but nothing overbearing.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good Pilsener made by an American brewer.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, best before 1/4/2015. Pours fairly crystal clear golden straw color with a 1 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, bread, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt, fruity yeast, and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, bread, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, bread, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good balance and robustness of pale malt, fruity yeast, and earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and clean mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is a nice and pleasant Czech pilsener. Good balance and robustness of pale malt, fruity yeast, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

From Nov 2005

poured from bottle(room temp) a medium clear gold with a medium sized head that dissipated quickly leaving just a fine ring around the edge of the glass.

The smell is dominated by hops but there *is* a sweet aroma of malt as well.

The taste is a very nice balance between the hops and malt and has that *pilsner* taste that I've experienced with the better European examples. This is one great session beer and I thoroughly recommend it.
