Alaskan White Ale is based on a Belgian-style witbier, literally translated to “white beer.” White beers, or “witbieren,” are named for the suspended wheat proteins creating a cloudy appearance in this unfiltered beer.

This weeks edition of how have I not rated this. Draft 10 oz pour at Yard House. Pours a hazy golden orange with a thin fizz head. Some floral aroma, hinted spice, slight Belgian feel. Flavor is gentle and sessionable. Soft wheat and spices. Gentle orange. Cool and smooth drinking beer. A nice longevity beer for football Sunday. I like it.

Bottle. Thought I had rated this. Glad I checked. It pours a clear golden color with a small off white head. The aroma has some rather strong orange peel and some coriander spice. Maybe some darker Munich type malts that hide any wheat character. The flavor is ok. Kinda like a slightly better, fuller bodied version of Blue Moon. Mostly orange, little coriander, light toasted malt. Pretty sweet and flabby in the finish, but not a bad drinker. Overall, pretty meh even for the style. At least it’s not over spiced.

Cloudy dull yellow-tan, malty-marshmallow, lemon and coriander. Malty body, lightly malty, floral, honeyish character. Not bad wit.

Bottle. Hazy deep yellow body with a frothy, white head, mostly diminishing. Anemic aroma of toasted grain, coriander, flowers. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. The spices just aren’t working well with the hops and malts. Unclean, so lacking that refreshing finish in better wits.
