Alaskan White Ale is based on a Belgian-style witbier, literally translated to “white beer.” White beers, or “witbieren,” are named for the suspended wheat proteins creating a cloudy appearance in this unfiltered beer.

This beer is a cloudy yellow color with a medium thick and foamy white head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of wheat, spices and fruit. Light-bodied with flavors of citrus, coriander, wheat and yeast. The finish is fruity with a spiced citrus aftertaste. Decent overall.

Draught at The Lazy Moon Craft Tavern, Port Angeles
Cloudy pale blond color with creamy head. Bready aroma. Weak and dry mouthfeel, with a bready character and low bitterness.

She pour a slightly hazy yellow/orange color and leaves the same colored body with a two finger white foamy head that rises and falls within thirty seconds to a film coating the top of the body. Streams of carbonation are seen rising at a moderate pace.
The smell has some light malt. There is some light banana all coming through in a refreshing sort of way. Hops are barely there, and there isn’t any yeast.
The taste is slightly malty but not sweet, sour perhaps - hmmm.... maybe, no yeast. There isn’t any aftertaste and there is a dry watery finish.
On the palate, she sits fairly light, comes across sessionable, and seems a bit undercarbonated for a witbier.
Overall, this is a mostly average beer for its style, but comes across well for the summer months. I would probably have this again with a nice seafood dish.

Bottle: Nearly clear gold with a tall white head. Lemon/orange aroma...grain, a bit of skunk. Taste is slightly wooden, lemon-honey-grain.....lemon and grain increasing as it warms... Not bad....not memorable, however.

Bottle. A- Oranges, coriander, wheat. A- Copper color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Orange, spice, and wheat tones. Balanced well. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish. O- An excellent Belgian white. Orange and coriander tones are almost perfect. Makes me crave a lot more of Alaskan Brewing beers.

Witbier is not one of my favorite styles, however, IMHO, this one isn’t that good. Extremely light aroma (which seems sour) and taste with metallic/varnish finish. Color and appearance are right, but all else falls behind it’s Belgian brethren.

hazy yellow. Creamy head fades fast. Nose is pretty weak with a Hint of wheat and lemons. There’s some spice and honey. Weak overall. Certainly a Belgian wit but not breaking any palate assumptions

Bottle, 12oz. A lightly hazy one, yellowish pale golden in color and topped by a small, dense, off-white head. The aroma has a touch of coriander seeds and orange, with a generic fruityness and pale malts in the back. Lighlty peppery, coriander-ish flavor with oranges and a generic citrusy fruityness. Wheat. Some bitterness, but just a little bit, the spices, fruityness and malts is much more evident, and lasts longer. Medium to full body, perhaps a tad sweet. Pleasant carbonation level. Not bad in any way this one, althoug a tad sweet maybe. At least it feels a bit too sweet to make me think I could have many of these, but served cold it could be a nice thirst quencher. 130828

Location: Draft at Ginger Man - Houston, 7/23/13

Aroma: Fairly typical of the style, but a little dull nose of orange, wheat, coriander/spice
Appearance: It pours a hazy orange color with a small white head on it
Flavor: It is light-medium sweet, with a bit of spice, but overall, the flavor is a touch bland
Palate: This one has a light body, plus carbonation, and a clean, mild dry finish
Overall Impression: Not the most impressive beer, it is fine, but I had higher expectations from Alaskan.

Poured from 355mL bottle. Hazy pale yellow with very minimal white head. Orange, coriander and wheat aroma with hint of lemon. Citrus and coriander taste with a little bit of dish detergent (and it wasn’t my glass because I washed it myself). Quite light and no wit taste.
