Our smoked stout is brewed with 65% beechwood smoked malt that contribute the smoky aromas reminiscent of campfires and smoked ham which are typical of the traditional “Rauchbier” or smoked beers. A small portion of English Caramel malt and loads of roasted and black barley give this ale its rich dark color and deep roasty coffee-like aromas which meld together well with the smoked malts. A small addition of Warrior hops are added in the kettle just to provide balance with a kiss of English East Kent Goldings added post boil to contribute a faint spicy aroma. The smoked malts are the key factor here and we want them to shine through and contribute a complex flavor profile to this beer rather than making it one dimensional! Cheers.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours near black with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges quickly. Aroma has a light smoke roasted malt a bit of dark grain backing. Flavor has some smoke dark grains with a bit of roast and a touch of sweetness.

Draft at the source. Almost black, beige head, solid lacing. Aroma of burnt toast. Taste is similar, with a bit of ash. Nice.
