La Petite Mort is a Belgian inspired Weissenbock brewed as a one off collaboration between The Local Option and Central Waters Brewery in Amherst, Wisconsin. A bourbon barrel aged version of La Petite Mort will be available in spring 2012.
When Central Waters decided to open its brew house for its first collaboration beer, Chicago’s Local Option was the obvious partner in crime. The resulting brainchild, La Petite Mort - a Belgian inspired Weissenbock – maintains the traditional characteristics of its Bavarian forbearer, with the added complexity of Belgian ale yeast. La Petite Mort is dark amber in color; maintains a rich, full-bodied mouth-feel augmented by caramel; mild and dark fruit. Rounded out by an unostentatious bourbon driven aroma from brief bourbon barrel aging, La Petite Mort is a complex ale, a marriage of distinctive styles, and an orgasmic experience for the taste buds that revel in its glory.

22oz bottle pours a deep caramel with a thin light tan head more of a caramelized malt barley wine aroma. More of the same in the flavors. Modest Belgian character. Dry finish.

Pretty good beer. Aroma is mainly cocoa. Flavor is a lot more complex with sweet being upfront and dominant a little Carbonic Tang hints of bourbon Oak wheat fruit fudge and grains. Great body and excellent finish.

A pitch black pour with a 1 finger head of tannish foam.
Big notes of bourbon in the smell with some roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla. A lot going on.
Bourbon up front in the taste but there’s a milkshake like sweetness here that I find welcoming to take my taste buds’ "mind" off the bourbon.
I’d call it full bodied.
A big and warming brew. This is very good.

From the September 2013 3R6P tasting +++ Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a hazy very dark brown color with a medium sized foamy tan head that faded quickly and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was funk, anise, coconut, sweetish malts and a boozy rum presence. The flavor was tangy, malty and toasty with notes of black licorice, coconut, port wine, bourbon and chocolate. Amazingly complex with flavors that come in waves. Very long flowing finish. Moderately full bodied and smooth. Marvelous.

Draft at Dexters. Nice brown burgundy color, unfiltered, thick. Steady thin beige head. Hmm..almost like a Belgo-American Dunkelweizen. Pleasant brown chocolate tones. Lots of clove spice action too. Quite complex and moderately sessionable . A quality, unique beer. Dubbel Weizen. Quite nice.

On tap at Local Option. Pours a cloudy amber brown with a yellowish brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has notes of sweet grains, clove and dark fruits backed by a hint of spices. Flavor has alot of clove and spice with some backing dark fruits and grains.
