This undefinable black brew is part black IPA, part American Stout, but 100% Diesel powered. Robust chocolate and roasted flavors, with thick pine hop flavor and aroma.

Can. Deep ambery brown colour with a thich mediumsized beigeish brown head, that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, some slight toffee, roasted malts and mild chocolate cookies as well. Flavour is mild roasted malts, some slight liquorice, ripe fruits and mild chocolate and bready malts as well.

Larger can at Sharper Edge. Pours a nice jet black color with a small white head. A sweet nose of roast and bitter chocolates. The flavor is bitter roast and hops, chocolates, something akin to glue, smooth. OK.

16 oz. can. Nose is pine, coffee and roasted malt. Taste was a nice mix of resinous pine with roasted and coffee malts, touch of chocolate notes trying to get through all the hops. Light pine bitterness however, more than you would get from a traditional stout. Creamy texture and solid medium body. Finish is dry and hoppy. What I like most about this brew is the depth of the roasted malt and hop profile. Is this a stout or Black IPA? Either way it’s a nice drink. However, if you’re looking for a more traditional stout, you may want to choose another. This is no way a negative statement, I like this brew!

Aroma: The nose is mostly resin, pine and roast, it has a fairly strong hop presence for the style
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a decent sized beige head and fairly heavy lacing
Flavor: The flavor is pretty balanced between the roasted/chocolate malts and the resin/pine hops
Palate: The body is medium-plus, with a smooth, soft, slightly sticky feel, and a fairly dry finish
Overall Impression: Overall, this is a nice hoppy black ale. The hop presence worked pretty well for me, and though it is fairly well balanced, the resin does stand out slightly over the roast. It makes me think of a Black IPA more so then a stout, but I don't really care where you categorize it, it is a good beer.

Can @ Armin’s, from some generous trader. Pours a deep brown appearance with a dark brown head. Fairly sweet, a touch fruity, piney, dark roasty malty aroma. Pretty piney, sappy organic hoppy, roasty, dark malty flavor. Pretty easy drinking, fun brew.

Canned at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Black, rich beige head. Tarry licorice aroma. Mid sweet with dense solid body and rounded moiuthfeel. Tar and licorice dominates until resiny bitterness takes over. A heavily hopped, aggressive stout.

Can from Half Time. Pours brown/black with a dark tan head. Aroma comes across as resin. And smooth burnt malt. Med body or nearly so. Flavor starts as hop, then more hop, then a slightly ashy smooth burnt malt. It is quite hoppy and bitter. Excellent ale.

Can: Milk chocolate nose with grassy licorice accents. Mahogany, thin tan head. Flavor is tobacco and licorice, more of the former. The licorice sweetness provides just enough balance to make this very enjoyable. Slight amount of tar and char in the finish. Immensely distinctive. I’ve had nothing quite like it. It barely has the weight to be a stout, and I wouldn’t call it an IDA, just a hoppy stout. This is what craft beer is all about.

Tap at Evening Star. Poured a dark slightly murky brown color (like a soda) with an off-white head. Aroma was roasted notes, coffee, a little muddy. Flavor was extremely earthy hops, with roasted malts. Expected something more like a stout or porter, but this was pretty much what I expect when I drink a Black IPA. Hmmm.

Sampled from a 16 oz can this beer poured a black color with a small soapy brown head that lingered and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was dry, roasty, toasty and had moderate floral hops with wood and coffee underneath. The flavor was strong floral hops, roasty malts, vanilla, wood and a bit of grapefruit that came out as it warmed. The finish was long, dry and hoppy.Fairly full bodied and creamy. Solid.
