A beautiful hue of autumn russet, Hardywood Farmhouse Pumpkin displays a voluminous head, with a bouquet of aromatic fresh spice. Medium to full in body, this ale offers a balanced flavor of caramelized pumpkin and pie spices, with a lingering finish laced with a hint of fresh ginger.
Sugar pumpkins came from the Farm to Family Market on Mechanicsville Turnpike and from the Village Garden. Peruvian organic ginger came from Ellwood Thompsons Local Market in Carytown. Pumpkin Pie Spice came from C.F. Sauer, right around the corner from Hardywood. Whole Ceylon cinnamon, whole Grenada nutmeg, whole Madagascar cloves and whole allspice came from Penzys Spices in Carytown. All are local Richmond businesses.

16 ounce can. Bright amber orange color. Small creamy beige head. Earthy malt aroma hints at allspice and nutmeg. Slightly tangy, yeasty malt flavor. Notes of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. Unusual combination of the saison style and pumpkin spices makes for an interesting result.

Bottle, slightly aged. Amber pour, low head. SPicy nose, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, stone fruit, spicy yeast, biscuity malts. Flavor is spicy, sweet, fruity. Pumpkin pie spices are main, though not crazy over the top. Alcohol hidden well. Nice enough.

Medium amber golden color. Little head. Dry malty nose with lots of cloves, cinnamon and apricots and underlying funky yeastiness. A bit muddled. Full bodied. Lots of cinnamon, clove, funky yeastiness. Again is a Saison really the best style to make a pumpkin beer. Very dry and palate doesn’t really support the abv. Not horrible and abv is well hidden but just muddled.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma is very hot, with earthy notes, pumpkin spice, and alcohol. Flavour is along the same lines, with alcohol, pumpkin spices, and earth. Pretty hot and the notes don't really work together. Meh.

Bottle - Lots of spice and a bit of perfume. Clear gold with a thin white head. Tons of clove and really way too much spice. Not good.

Pumpkin, lemon, and pear nose. Clear orange, thin head. Apricot and pumpkin flavor, allspice, lemon zest finish. Mild brown sugar finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Spicing is very subtle, but the pumpkin is evident and compliments the Belgian esters quite well. Good yeast strain for this style of beer.
