We could hardly say it more eloquently. Our Limited Edition Aphrodite Ale is ethereal, intriguing and mysterious – as the Goddess Aphrodite must have been. Aphrodite has champagne-like carbonation, much as the foam of the waves of the sea. Plus enchanting flavors with whispers of raspberry and pear, and hints of funk and tartness created by the Brett yeast. The refreshing dryness comes from the unusual combination of Ommegang and Brett yeasts, and incites feelings of love and thirst, though we don't know about lust. Grains of paradise are infused into the nectar, and when poured Aphrodite is crowned with a luxuriously shimmering rose-pink head.

750mL bottle, fresh, back in circa 2011. Dark violet-to-ruby with a small, yellow-to-pink-tinged, off-white head showing low retention. Big fruits in the nose with typical Belgian esters adding fruit and pepper. Light acidity and good mix of both yeast and fruit. Malty, rustic grains with low sugar. In the mouth it's tart, soft, malty, lightly juicy with pepper and strong esters. Good attenuation, long tartness, tons of authentic fruit. Really nice non-sour Belgian fruit ale without a bunch of crap or syrup in it, which you almost never see any more.

750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, bottled on 6/9/2011. Pours lightly hazy ruby red color with a 2 finger dense light pink head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with plenty of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big tart raspberry, cherry skin, pear, green apple, hay, straw, grass, Brett funk, vinegar, leather, clove, pepper, red wine, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great balance and complexity of tart fruits with spicy/funky yeast and brett notes with moderate malt sweetness; and great strength. Taste of tart raspberry, cherry skin, pear, green apple, pepper, clove, hay, straw, grass, Brett funk, vinegar, leather, red wine, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart fruits, clove, pepper, hay, straw, grass, Brett funk, vinegar, leather, red wine, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and balance of tart fruit with spicy/funky yeast and brett notes; with a good tartness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a slick, moderately syrupy, and lightly crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent fruited wild ale. All around great complexity and balance of fruit and yeast/brett flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle corked and capped, best by June 2014, poured into a white wine glass. Pours translucent red with medium beige head. Small bubble lacing, medium body, medium carbonation, and light raspberry aroma. Taste is raspberry, pear, yeast, and hints of tartness. Not bad for a fruit beer, but doesn’t compare with New Glarus Raspberry Tart.

750 thanks to Dallas. Pours a mostly clear dark copper color with a medium white head. A sweet fruity nose with some dry yeast and barrel. The flavor is an interesting though non-distinct fruit, some dry mellow earthy malt, yeast, cherries, brown malt. Good.

bottle - For style it seems like this should be a wild ale, but alright... it pours red-orange with a light, fizzy, fast fading head. It smells quite fruity, especially of raspberries, and there’s some brett apparent. The flavor is sweet and very fruity with some basement funk and a very lively, bubbly palate. It has a gentle, warming finish and overall is a good beer though perhaps a bit too sweet.

750mL bottle, pours a pinkish red with a small beige head. Aroma of raspberries, yeast, candied sugar and slight tartness. Flavour of slightly tart raspberries, cut down by the candied sugar. The pear juice is also slightly noticeable toward the end. Nice balanced between the sweetness and tartness. Solid raspberry-centric fruit beer.

Draft at Brasserie V. Unfiltered bright cherry red, pink hued beige head. Fruity, funky candy cherry aroma. An odd creature, some red wine raspberry tones. Odd, awkward bitter sourness. Not so impressive, a little disappointing, Some mild cherry lactic tones. Doesn’t taste Belgian, the sourness is a touch forced, and doesn’t add much. Sort of artificial, lacks most good beer qualities. Covers the alcohol, but has an almost Mad Dog aftertaste. Subdued, but not impressive, lacks depth. Fruity undertones..Cherry, raspberry, pear.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Buy Rite, 2/26/12

Aroma: The nose is sweet and fruit, with lots of raspberry, some yeast, and light tangy notes
Appearance: The pour is a mostly clear reddish-purple color with small, creamy white head
Flavor: The taste is medium (plus) sweet, and there's a decent amount of funky tartness too
Palate: The body is medium, it has a pretty decent mouthfeel, and the carbonation is average
Overall Impression: I thought this was a decent fruit beer. This one was bottled in June 2011, so I thought the brett would be a little more present then it is, but I still found the beer enjoyable.
