Funky Gold Amarillo is the second beer in our dry-hopped sour ale series. We took our sour golden ale, Gold, and gave it a heavy dosing of Amarillo hops. The result is a beer that is a mix of tropical fruit and Prairie funk. Notes of peach, orange, white wine, and citrusy brett can be found in the flavor and aroma.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; cloudy yellow pour with a big soapy white head, aroma has some peach along with funk, quite a big hit of grapefruit and lesser tropics, some metal from the brett action, along with mango action going on quite drying, pineapple, expensive beer but there’s not a value scale.

500 mL bottle poured. Pours a thick cloudy pineapple juice color with a fading fizz head. Sweet citrus aroma. Flavor is sour up front, with a ton of brett, and nice earthy hops. Very funky, as expected from the label when the beer sold itself to me. Nice tart finish. Tasty.

On tap @Ma che siete venuti a fà (Rome). Pours deep golden, a bit cloudy, little white head. Aroma is citrus, wild yeasts, hay, some esters, light vinegar, oak, impressive. Flavour is very sour, light fruits, light vinegar, tart, long persistence. Medium to high body, high carbonation. Just a bit rough, but cool!

Bottle shared by Arve_Christian - thanks a lot! Pours hazy yellow With a white head. Funky and fairly yeasty aroma with fruity notes, pineapple, citrus and yeast. Moderate sweet with funky and fruity flavours, nice acidity and a certain bitterness. Very refreshing and quite tasty.

Gushing to white head, again gone in seconds. Fully hazy, lively carbonated yellow/orange beer with a faint green sheen. Sourish nose, very spicy, funky nose, smokey, lemon. Lemon, spices, typical non-saccharomyces yeasts. Sour grapefruit; hoppy flavours appearing in the finish. Lipsmacking acidity, acidthinning to light body. Not bad, but rather unidimensional sour, not saved by the amarillo.

(500ml bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, June 4 2015) Pours a hazy medium gold with a moderate, lingering white head and lace. Aroma has a big whack of tart orange and mandarin zest, some lemon, peach, a bit of tropical fruit cocktail, loads of deeply sweaty Brett, some grassy overtones. Flavour echoes the nose with juicy, tart and slightly sour orange rind and flesh with a bit of lemon zest, apricot, and even mango. The tart citrusy, fruity notes persist really well through the sip as the funky Brett with barnyard, some earth and light sweat comes in. Still lightly sour and tart on the finish, orange, lemon, apricot, fresh grassy hops, Brett, soft bitterness. Light to medium bodied with effervescent carb. Nice, fruity citrusy flavours keep this really bright, good balance of hops and funk with a twisted farmhouse feel. Quite a tasty one.
