Funky Gold Amarillo is the second beer in our dry-hopped sour ale series. We took our sour golden ale, Gold, and gave it a heavy dosing of Amarillo hops. The result is a beer that is a mix of tropical fruit and Prairie funk. Notes of peach, orange, white wine, and citrusy brett can be found in the flavor and aroma.

The foam starts to build up immediately after opening the bottle. Pours a hazy yellow-orange color with a big big-bubbled head. Aroma is funky, fresh bretts, peach, lemony, some lacto, some exotic fruits. Taste is lemony, peppery, some dough, peppery finish, also a bit bitter. Not bad! The amarillo gives some extra peachiness to the aroma, and the taste is somehow special. Carbonation is rather high.

Bottle: Pours a golden color and topped with a finger of white head. An interesting aroma with the Amarillo hops added, sort of tropical fruit hoppiness swirling with funk. Just what I’d expect, I guess. Plenty of tart and a little fruit in the taste. Tropical, maybe some peaches. Tart dry finish.

Bottle. Cloudy pastel yellow with a high, super fine head. Stink ass nose, peaches, melon, stinky mango, yogurt, lychee and funk. Quite tart flavor though not really sour. Great fruitiness. More grapefruit is coming through. Super tart and sweet balance. Apricots. Great beer.

Bottle. Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Vivid gold. Film, and a few bubbles of white. Funky, and bretty. A bit of lactic, lemony shizzle. Hops come across lemony, and peachy. Mouthwatering aroma. Taste is light, lactic, lemony tart. Not entirely bone dry because there’s a lick of sweetness in there. Sharp, zingy palate. Finishes tart and light dry. Light hop bitterness right on the close. Tart-tastic.

Bottled (thanks fonefan!). Yellowish golden colour, small slightly off-white head. Aroma is quite catpissy, some spicy yeast, floral and earthy notes. Flavour is wooden, floral and some floral notes. Balanced. Nice kind of tart, but still sweetish finish.
