Aged in Catoctin Creek Roundstone Rye white oak barrels, Slobberknocker picks up vanilla and hints of toffee along with some oak dryness. This is a very complex sipping beer that rewards the patient as it warms and the barrel character expresses.

Draft at Mad Fox Brewing’s 3rd Annual Barleywine Festival. Poured a deep copper color with a small off-white head. Aroma was sweet, caramel toffee notes with some spice character, surrounded by a bunch of vanilla oak. Flavor had some light hops, vanilla oak, spice. Enjoyed the mellow characters in this one.

Growler from the brewpub, enjoyed 6/14/11. Pours a hazy dark brownish red color with a thin tan head that fades fairly quickly to nothing. Aroma of toffee, vanilla, wood, maple, some apple-like fruits and a very faint hoppiness. The taste is toffee, aples, wood, vanilla, whisky and a bit of a cheesy finish. Medium-full bodied. A little bit of heat. Tasty beer.

Location: Brewpub, 6/10/11

Aroma: The nose has some booze, spice, yeast, caramel, bread, vanilla, and toast
Appearance: It pours a caramel-mahagony color with a fairly small head atop it
Flavor: The taste is similar to the nose, heavy malty, but with more hop presence
Palate: The body is medium (leaning toward the full side), with a decent amount of heat to it
Overall Impression: Number 1800! When you are reading my overall impression you have to imagine that Michael Imperioli is reading this rating with a bottle of Tequilla in front of him looking like he's really unhappy the Sopranos ended. As for the beer, it was solid. I enjoyed it. Now put down your bottle that pours you a shot, and enjoy an Oaked Slobberknocker, Michael!

4oz pour at the Lupulin Reunuless at RFD DC. Pours a hazy copper with a creamy white head. Nose of tropical fruit, coconut, wood, orange, caramel. Sharp sherry flavors, wood, apples. Sharp wood flavors, full bodied, lightly tart finish. A little grapey. A little tough to drink, a little heavy handed.
