A Belgian Royal Stout from Flanders aged for 2yrs in Balvenie whisky barrels
1892 - William Grant bouwt de Balvenie distilleerderij in het verlaten Balvenie New House. Anno 2018 vergisten we Black Albert tot 15% en voegen die toe aan een stel fantastische whisky & sherry barrels van deze distilleerderij. Om The Balvenie DoubleWood te maken, neemt David Stewart MBE whisky die minstens 12 jaar in traditionele whiskyvaten, Amerikaans eiken ex-bourbonvaten en hogsheads heeft gelegen, en verplaatst deze naar Spaanse eiken ex-Oloroso sherryvaten voor nog eens negen maanden. De Balvenie DoubleWood single malt whisky dankt zijn karakter aan de rijping in twee verschillende houtsoorten. Elke fase verleent verschillende kwaliteiten aan de resulterende single malt whisky. De traditionele vaten verzachten en geven een delicaat karakter, het sherryhout geeft diepte en een volle smaak en de laatste paar maanden in onze vaten zorgen ervoor dat de whisky's harmonieus met elkaar kunnen versmelten.

Bottle 10, 15%. Very dark brown with small beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, caramel, bread and wood. Flavour is roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, sweet, warming, wood, barrel, little sherry and medium bitter.

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, alcohol, licorice, oak and light vinous, Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long warm, smooth, chocolate, licorice and oak finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

330ml bottle from HoTM. It pours darkest brown to black with a decent tan head. The aroma is quality dark chocolate, cacao nibs, nutty, praline, gateaux, vanilla cake frosting, fruity Speyside whisky, bounty bar, thick and roasted. The taste is dry roasted malt, some bitterness, plenty of dark chocolate, charred action, toothy, chewy, rocky road, fruity whisky, some toffee, plum, date, fig, millionaires shortbread, some spice, alcohol warmth, brownie, earth, dry oak and some umami as it warms up with a drying, roasted finish. Fulsome body and average carbonation. Robust with some nice depth. more savoury than sweet, which is novel in today's age. Enjoyable stuff.

Light brown head, thin, roasty, bitter, boozy. Lots of dry wood, coffee, some soy sauce. Not too hot or sharp, but could be smoother. Not bad.
