The last of a series, Batch 10,000 Ale looks back to our home-brewing roots. After combing through the catalogs of many, many malt & hop suppliers, our brewers used over 100 different malts, grains, and other fermentables, and followed them up with a blend of 60 different hop varietals between the kettle additions and dry-hopping. The resulting beer presents a deep, chocolate brown hue and offers roasted & caramel notes from the malts mixed with an assertive hop character. Sharply bitter, the beer possesses a full mouthfeel without being heavy and will withstand aging in your cellar, if you prefer.

Pours dark brown color with light tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate and some alcohol. Sweet milk chocolate and roasted malt flavors with some caramel. A little boozy but not overwhelming; it adds some warmth. Full body with moderate carbonation. A really nice brew.

Bottle. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, raisins and dried fruit, molasses, mineral salts, grapes. Dark brown with lace. Roasty malt flavor with caramel, chocolate, licorice, some wine and smoke, vanilla. Very messy tasting, though interesting. Wacked out but good.

Received in trade from Davolebomb, thanks for the opportunity. Pours the darkest of browns that lets only the faintest of ruby through the edges. Frothy bubbly beige head slowly recedes leaving lots of sticky lace in its wake. Smells of herbal and pine hops mixed with sweet malts filled with brown sugar and dark fruit. Taste is sweet and malty with barely just enough hops left to balance this one out. Brown sugar, molasses, and sweet cherry sweetness are cut with herbs and pine. Slight warming alcohol adds a layer of complexity. Mouthfeel is creamy bordering on sticky, light level of carbonation and a medium thick body. Decent brew, reminds me of an aged barleywine, but from what Iβve read about the list of ingredients I would have expected more complexity. Glad I got to try it.

Bottle via a trade. Pours with an extremely deep brown (near black) body and a thick light brown head. Aromas of brown sugar, plums, port, nectarines, dark fruits, citrus, toffee, burnt caramel, alcohol, all sorts of fruit notes (light, dark, from hops, esters, a whole myriad of fruits). Cotton candy, resin. Flavors of tobacco, dark fruits, burn sugar, dates, chocolate, leather. Tons of burnt, ashy and earthy flavors. Not nearly as pleasing as the aroma. Some alcohol. Leathery aftertaste that stays. Some citrus and pine hop notes that are also associated with a bit of a harshness that seems to also come from the hops (think of a rough bittering hop). Creamy carbonation. Comes together like a black barley wine (ala Sierra Nevada). I wish that Schmaltz would do as good of a job at throwing so many ingredients into a beer. Good, but I think they could do with about 95 less different types of malt (for starters).

12oz bottle-pours a cascading to rocky light brown head that laces with brown/dark copper color. Aroma is sweet resin/citrus rind, medium/dark malt-cocoa. Taste is dark malt-roasty/ashy, alcohol, then resin. All with an overriding abrasiveness. As it warms, dark malt-cocoa/roasty/some molasses, sweet resin hops, some alcohol. (Taste goes from an initial 5 to an 8)

Bottle pours dark amber with thin tan head. The aroma is roasted malts, spicy maple syrup, some cherries, spicy hops, pine hops, faint grapefruit and a mild level of peaty smokiness at the end of the draw. The warmer it gets the stronger the peat and/or smoke note becomes. The taste hits first with a dash grapefruit hops and quickly moving into pine hops, peat and some smoke. It picks up a touch of roasted malts midway and to the finish.

bottle - Pours very dark amber with a lasting light tan head that leaves heavy lacing. The nose is malty with some dark fruit and caramel. The flavor is definitely well hopped. Itβs moderately bitter and is backed by a substantial malty body. Thereβs also a boozy character to it. Itβs a very good brew but not the greatness I hoped it would be.

12oz bottle thanks to inflatablehair I am pretty sure. Pours out a burnt orange/brown topped with a cream head. Aroma was a nice mix of hops dome, citrus, grass, and brown sugar. The taste was more of the hop combination along with a good balance of sweet malts and brown sugar. Bells Batch beers never let me down.
