This award-winning stout was inspired by our friends at Luna Coffee in De Pere. It took over 5 months of late night experiments to perfect its balance– luckily plenty of coffee was on hand.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thick, very large and soapy, but fast-dying rich brown head that starts off at around 7 centimetres and fades to just a small layer after a few seconds. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, oatmeal, mushrooms, earth, umami notes, a dash of soy sauce and some strong nuts towards the finish, with a great deep quality and a good amount of complexity in the nose. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong rich malts show at first with the oatmeal, grain, earth and nuts and then the rich coffee flavours hit hard with brewed coffee and some ground coffee here as well along with a rich chocolatey finish with some lactose and cream, too. Aftertaste shows some dry grain and nuts with the earthiness really coming out at the finish with a lot of bitterness from the malts and burnt notes. Overall, a pretty nice, deep and super pungent beer that has a lot of richness, most in the form of the malts, but the coffee flavours and lactose hit nicely, too. Overall, a beer that has tons of flavours, a nice richness, a strong complexity and enough of an easy-ish drinking profile to let me get through this on a middle summer day here in the Mid-Atlantic. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle, purchased from Hy-Vee [grocery] in Madison, Wisconsin on 08-August-2021 for US$1,99 sampled at my house here in Washington on 18-July-2022.

12 ounce bottle. Opaque black color. Moderate light tan head. Roasted malt nose has a big coffee-like character and smoky touch. Flavor is more roasted malt and coffee. Notes of smoke and cocoa as well. Medium bodied and creamy in midtaste. Finish is dry and roasty with some bitter resiny hops.

16 oz. bottle, from West. Thanks, man! Pours black, with a medium, tan head. Nose is coffee, light toffee, some allspice, and syrup. Very sweet, with a light bitterness that balances well. Medium body, syrupy, and a little acrid. This is a nice, low-key, coffee forward stout.

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours black with a half finger of tan head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate and a little caramel. Taste is light bitter and follows aroma. Mostly coffee and dark chocolate. Medium bodied with a thin and watery texture. Soft carbonation and a decently long finish. Good beer, but the mouthfeel is off.

50cl bottle pours a watery black with some very frothy, beige head. Nose has a lot of bright coffee bean, molasses, bread. Flavor is heavy with green bell pepper, malt, caramel, coffee bean. Astringent finish.

Draft @ 800° Three Fires. Earthy coffee, ash, and very light chocolate aroma. Black brown with a moderate creamy beige head. Bright fruity coffee, earthy/dirt, and very light chocolate flavor. LIght body, soft carbonation. I’ve been digging these lighter bodied sessionable stouts, which are nice change of pace for the summer.
