Weighing in at 10.3% ABV, it is one of the strongest beers that Allagash has ever brewed. This beer utilized a unique brewing process that used wort from a smaller brew, as the "water" for mashing the grain for this brew. Maine grown barley was used as the base for this grain bill that also included a blend of three roasted malts and oats. Fluxus was appropriately hopped with both US Saaz and Glacier hops. Just before knock out, fifty pounds of Taza roasted Cacao nibs were added to the whirlpool. The result is a thick, sticky stout with tons of both roasted and chocolate flavors, aromas of tobacco and cocoa, and a surprisingly sweet, creamy finish.

Pours as black as raven’s eye. Thick full beige Head. Lacing coated the glass like snow coats the earth in a New England snow storm. Aroma is of dark fruit like prunes, figs and raisins. Slight alcohol in the nose. Taste is of raisin upfront with a hint of chocolate and coffee in the finish. If you let it linger too long on the tongue the alcohol is noticeable. Medium to full body, smooth and creamy in the finish. If this beer was offered as a full time brew, I would recommend this to any stout lover. Awesome!

Bottle. Pours black with tan head. Nose and taste of sweet medium roasted chocolate malts, lactose sweetness, cocoa, and vanilla. Lots of lactose and bittersweet salty baker’s chocolate.

Served on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a dark brown color with a dark brown medium sized head. Good head retention and lacing. Nutty aroma with caramel, smoke and an herbal finish. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, smoke, nutty notes, leafy hops with a lingering bitterness. Medium-full bodied.

750 c&c from South Bay Drugs. Pours black with a 3 finger really dark tan foamy head. Aromas of darker chocolate and I think treacle. Somewhat sticky with foamy, but not strong, carbonation. Flavor is gritty dark chocolate. It’s not really very sweet, so the chocolate really comes through. There’s a lot of bitter around tongue sides. The chocolate is strong in the finish. Drinks way too easy. In the end I’d say it isn’t sweet.

Draft at Pizzeria Paradiso. Interesting and unique stout with a slightly fruity flavor. Very nice indeed, and even better than last year’s version.
