Location: 12 oz bottle from State Line, 10/24/12

Aroma: The nose has clean malts, some grass/hay, yeast, and some hints of spice and fruit
Appearance: It pours a cloudy golden color with a small white head that leaves light, spotty lace
Flavor: The taste is fairly clean as well, with some light sweetness and a clean grassy hoppiness
Palate: The body is fairly light, but not watery, with a crisp and clean feel, and a smooth finish on the mouth
Overall Impression: I thought that this one was a really solid, drinkable beer. It is quite quaffable. I didn’t see any qualms, and I liked it. Good job here by Shlafly with a style I don’t always love. This was one of the better Kolsch’s I’ve tried.

From an old set of notes. Not bad for a summer lawn-mower beer. Light and crisp, great for outside drinking. Light citrus hops. Would be a great intro to craft.

Asparagus and peas on the nose, a little like urine. Clear amber, medium head. Grassy clean cabbage flavor. Cherry finish. Having had Schlafly’s imperial stout and liked it, I recommended this beer to friends. I regret that.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market, Charlottesville, VA. Poirs a clear pale golden color with a large head. Decent head retention and lacing. The aroma is primarily grassy hops with some faint grainy notes. The taste is grassy hops with a tart malty finish and a bit of corn. Medium bodied. Meh.

Picked this up while in Warsaw, IN, enjoyed in Chicago. This was the last one they had, and there was a considerable amount of dust on it, but I figured I’d give it a shot anyways. It’s not bad, very simple, but good. Aroma of light corn and wheat. Appearance is cloudy yellow with little head. Taste is crisp, but not too much going on with it. Hopefully I can try again...with a little less dust on the bottle.

Sample at Bigelo’s Bistro in Edwardsville, IL. Pours a clear golden color with a compact and thin off-white head. Spotty lacing. Grainy malt and grass in the nose. Light body with a rather soft mouthfeel. Flavors of sweet malt and fruits, mild hops and grain. The finish is short with a grassy hops aftertaste. Just average overall.
