bottle shared at Ft Wayne tasting last fall - Pours hazy dark amber and smells of malt and pepper. It tastes of sweet malt, yeast, and lots of pepper. Thus far I’m not a fan of peppers in beer though this one is alright. I still thought it was too peppery and that kept me from picking out much else in it. One thing is for sure though. This full bodied brew beats the hell out of Cave Creek chili beer. *shudder* Edit: just found my rating from last summer’s Michigan Brewer’s Fest of the same beer. It’s strange how different it is. I called it fruity and lively on the palate with barely a mention of the spice. Strange. 8/4/8/4/15 rating. I"ll average it with the 6/3/6/4/12 from the bottle above.

Bottled at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Mahogany colour, clear, small head. Interesting spicy nose. Is that sage? Sweet and heavily caramelly with full body and viscous mouthfeel. Alcohol warmth and chili tingle joins herbal bitterness in the finish. A heavy beer that manages to retain balance.

Bottle. I kind of liked this brew, even though all the spices and other things going on made it quite unbalanced and strange. I have to admit that I had drunk som beers before trying out this one...

Bottle. Amber with a small head. The taste was better than the aroma. A bit odd beer, not bad but not great either. Mostly chocolate, spices and alcohol.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite - Jersey City, 6/29/10
Aroma: The nose has notes of chocolate, some spice (pepper), chili, and a bit of earth
Appearance: This one pours a mostly clear dark mahogany color with a small beige head.
Flavor: The taste is malty, it has some sweetness with a strong spicy component.
Palate: Medium-bodied with a little bit of wateriness to it, average carbonation, and a long spicy finish.
Overall Impression: Overall, this is a pretty decent attempt at the peppery beer style. It isn't exactly a style that I would want to drink regularly, but I'm glad I tried this attempt at it. Decently well-made as well, but I don't really think I need 22 oz of this one again. I do like the idea though. Mole is an awesome sauce, and to try and make a mole beer is a pretty cool idea.

Bomber brought back with me from Wisconsin - pours a medium reddish brown - very fizzy, but it fails to produce a head - kind of looks like cherry soda - aroma is boozy, rum-like - some notes of raw coffee beans, treacle, light chili pepper, peanut skins - tastes almost lager/doppelbock like up front - kind of thin bodied and flavored, allowing far too much of the alcohol to come become evident - flavor is lightly sugar sweet, with some innocuous fruity character, nuttiness, cookie dough - some very light and out of place coffee bean - moderate chili pepper spice arrives late, making the finish a hard to distinguish mix of peppery spice and alcohol burn - a very messy beer - they should have attempted this with a heftier, darker ale - I wasted trunk space dragging this 1100 miles back home - I should have just brought another bottle of GI Coffee BCS back with me, although I am fairly certain that I won’t like that beer either.
