A copper brown ale with a thin moka head. A pleasant chocolate and light chile aroma, In mouth, a rather light chocolate malt, some nice fruity esters, some light peated notes. Quite nice. Bottle at Mondiale 2010.

Bottle thanks to blutt59. Pours with an off-white head over a hazed amber-brown body. Aroma of chocolate, green peppers and cinnamon. Taste is sweet, peppery, vegital and chocolate. Peppery and dry finish.

On tap. Poured dark brown with a gray brown head that dissipated completely. Aroma had some sweet chocolate and caramel with a backing chili note. Flavor was similar with sweeter notes such as chocolate with a slight backing of chilies.

Sampled on draft at Smokin’ Joe’s this beer poured a dark brown color with a small beige head that lingered and produced some lacing. The aroma was sour nut, malty and had notes of cocoa, root beer, hot peppers and wochestershire sauce. The flavor was bitter and sharp with notes of cocoa, root beer, fruity hops and hot peppers with a light earthy undertone. The finish was long and malty with cocoa and hot pepper lingering. Moderately full bodied. Quite interesting.

Sample at Buckeye Beer Engine. The beer is a clear dark amber color with a compact beige head that dissipates slowly. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of cocoa and earthy malt. Medium body with a sweet chocolate and malt character along with touches of black licorice and spices. The finish is chocolatey with a mildly bitter coffee aftertaste. Above average overall.

Courtesy of askofficerfriendly. Pours clear copper with thin off white head. The aroma is spicy, peppery, celery, cucumber skins and brown sugar. The taste is spicy, thick sweetness from malts, ripe cherries and dark brown sugar. I also get Italian pasta spices, peppers and earthy crusty garden salad. Weird brew.

Bottle. Deep red body, thin cream head. Nose of chiles and cocoa. Medium body with chocolate, carob, and licorice balanced by spicy chiles that pack modest heat; the beer is also vinous and warming. A curious maple syrup sweetness is also part of the flavor profile. Interesting beer, worth a purchase, but not something I would casually drink.

Bottle. So the guy at the beer shop warned me this was terrible, but I’m stubborn and the concept of a mole beer is so exciting that I pushed forward, spending the 8 bucks or whatever on the bottle. With low expectations I looked at the bottle and discovered that it was pretty translucent... this was not what I was looking for. I can see that mole in a stout might be interesting, but in something lighter???! Well... anyway, I finally manned up and poured the reddish brown stuff in a bottle (being sure to admire the light that pours through and the inch or so of head.) Aromas are chocolate, stale coffee, caramel malt and a little bit of an apple like fruitiness. So far, so good, I guess. First sip shows this might work better as a stout. Lots of sweetness... caramel, apple juice and chocolate with an herbal edge and a little bit of coffee. As it warms, the sweetness and herbal edge start to take over more. I’m not sure quite how I feel about it. I’m much happier that the guy at the store led me to believe I would be, but I still feel like this should be much better at the price.
