Our exploration into the flavors of mole, the legendary sauce of central Mexico. Malty aroma and rich, cocoa-laden body laced with an invigorating tinge of dried chilies and coffee.

Poured ultra clear dark brown with little head. Aroma is acidic left over chili and bean. Taste is vanilla and jalapeno. Weird little ale.

Sample from bottle at Glunz Beer Expo, April 5. Guess I could’ve been "first" if I didn’t have so many notes and so little time. Ah, well. It is brown ale colored in the glass. Nice bit of foam on top. Not getting much of a smell, as the sample’s pretty small. Taste does have some molé to it, but I’m not entirely crazy about the way the chiles were played in, though (I’m jealous, of course, because I made a molé porter once that placed pretty highly in competition. The molé are mild and a little chocolaty. But not much beer backup to it, and if there’s coffee too, it doesn’t help smooth the taste. Just comes across too harsh and bitter, and this from a lover of chile beers.
