Our exploration into the flavors of mole, the legendary sauce of central Mexico. Malty aroma and rich, cocoa-laden body laced with an invigorating tinge of dried chilies and coffee.

Pours medium brown color with tan head. Aromas of toasted malts, chocolate, chillis. Similar flavors with a hint of smokiness. Medium body with average carbonation. Not all that good.

I was looking forward to the possibilities of a Mole beer, but this one fell rather flat for me. Poured a brown-amber, with a dense brown head. Looking forward to the complexity but only got the spicy chilli aromas, but not much else. Same for the beer. Spicy finish with a fairly base malt profile. Disappointing.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 9/11/2013. Pours crystal clear deep reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, raisin, plum, pear, caramel, toast, brown bread, brown sugar, chili pepper, light coffee, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good complexity and balance of malt, spice, and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, raisin, plum, pear, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light chili pepper, light coffee, herbal, and toasted/yeast earthiness. Slight pepper heat on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, raisin, plum, pear, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light coffee, light chili pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance, complexity, and robustness of malt, spice, and yeast ester flavors; with light-moderate chili/coffee presence and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately slick and fairly smooth mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good chili beer. Good balance, robustness, complexity of malt, yeast ester, and spice flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Shared bomber; shaker glass. Chose this to drink Christmas night in front of the fireplace . . . to close out our third day without power after an ice storm. A not-attractive brown color. Chili was dominant on nose and first hit to the palate, but not so much that it was bad. The roast coffee quickly kicks in to add more complexity. Then I wait for the ABV kick, but don’t get one. Very thin smooth finish for 10.5 ABV.

Clear brown - red beer, short lived white head. Palate starts semi soft but has a crispy edge. Sweet milky malt with a subtle smoky note. Whispers of bubblegum and nuts. Finishes soft and sweet. Low carbonation but a sweet well joined up beer.

22oz bomber from Pinch poured into a shaker. Pours a cloudy nut brown with a small bit of white head. Aroma of light chocolate with a little bit of spicy pepper. A small bit of coffee also. Taste is light sweet. Mostly chocolate malt with a little bit of coffee and hardly any chilli. A small bit of heat about 30 seconds after each sip. Medium bodied with a thin yet creamy texture. Soft carbonation and a long hot finish. Overall, very good. The fact that I got it for 5 bucks on the discount rack helps even more.

Draft at Maduro. Opaque brown black with a steady off-white head. Subtle chocolate aroma. Interesting sour spiciness, almost some odd tequila or rum nuances. Sweet and malty, I can’t place this beer in any style designation. Raisin. Prune. Milk Stout at times, but with an odd alcohol soaked pineapple taste. Sort of a mess, albeit and interesting mess. Mild carbonation. Maybe some candy banana in the aftertaste, not in a hefe way. A weird one.
