Exotic yet mild lager... Sublime complexity and intriguing malt character glow from this traditional amber lager. The hallmark beer style of Germany's Franconia region, this beer features beech-wood kilned malts for a softly smoky and rich flavor. Overall mild and mellow, this one's a fascinating treat!

Served on draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear dark copper color with a medium head. Decent head retention and lacing. Fairly smoky aroma with some caramel and fruity notes. The taste is fairly smoky with caramel and a light earthy note. Medium bodied. Good beer.

Tap at BGH, Brooklyn ($6): Pours a copper body with a white head. Nose is all peat-like and smoky, but not very smoky... just subtlely. The rest is lager aroma. Tastes like a slightly sweet, caramel lager with smoky hints sort of appended to it. The smoke is at the same time the central element and a periphery element. Good, but mostly because I am a sucker for smokebeer.

Draught at Churchkey, courtesy of tarheels86. Clear dark golden, no head, no lacing. Aroma of light bacon. Taste is weak and watery, slight bitter and acidic. Unpleasant.

This beer is etched into my mind and psyche. Had this at the Victory event at Blind Tiger, 28 tap lines and this was by far the best. Got this first and then kept drinking others’ leftovers of this beer. Very clean easy drinking lager with a clear amber body. Aroma is strong on lightly sweet smoke. Taste is full of it as well. Absolutely no off flavors from the lager, very well attenuated and just great. This is perfect for a very smoke lager.

Bright copper. Light aroma - only the vaguest smoke, munich malts. Lightish body, again just faint smoke underpinning a slightly toasty, caramelly vienna.
