Exotic yet mild lager... Sublime complexity and intriguing malt character glow from this traditional amber lager. The hallmark beer style of Germany's Franconia region, this beer features beech-wood kilned malts for a softly smoky and rich flavor. Overall mild and mellow, this one's a fascinating treat!

Draught from ell tigre. Orangey red brown pour, mild head, smoked wood/bacon bits aroma - comparable to a Spezial rauchbier more so than a Schlenkerla, if you’re keepign track. Really good, one of the better american ones I’ve haad.

On tap at BTBF. A reminder that my ratings are hedonistic, and I am scoring it to my preferences and not necessarily how I would score it per style. Pours with a clear bronze hued body with a white head. Aromas are smoke, earthy, bacon. Moderate malt complexity past the smoke. Somewhat cleanish yeast character. Flavors are smokey, earthy and nutty with a clean yeast character. Can be a bit harshly smokey at times, a bit earthy. Lively carbonation, off dry. All smoke.

Draft: pours amber-red with a light tan head. Aroma is ham smoked with a slight plastic/vinyl note initially, which soon fades. Flavour is malty, smoked meat..... NICE.

Powerful smoke, bacon, salted ham, biscuit malts, too. A fairly clean beer, meaning the not overly caramel, molasses, or fruity flavors, just biscuit malts and smoked malt. I wish I had been in the mood for a smoked because it is a very nice rauch but since I wasn’t it made a full pint nearly impossible. Good brew though. Very good.

Sampled on draft at Smokin Joes this beer poured a caramel-amber color with a small beige head that left good lacing. The aroma was strong hickory and bacon and light notes of smoke and soot. The flavor was woody with notes of hickory, smoke and light tangy apples. The finish was long, woody and smoky. Medium body. Ok.
