Not sure what these great ratings drank, cause it wasnt what i had at the mondiale de la biere. This is a cloyingly sweet syrupy mess. This is alcoholic syrup, plain and simple. There is nothing to take away from this. Its pretty much a bad mead.

11.2 ounce bottle from Once Upon a Vine in Richmond, VA. Pours a dark brown color with nearly no head. A think brown ring on the side. Aroma of chocolate, port, raisin, toffee, booze, maple, nutty notes. The taste is very sweet and predominantly raisin, with some caramel, toffee, port and maple notes. Medium-full bodied. Alcohol is well hidden the taste, though the beer is a touch warming. Overly sweet I think. Cloying. Disappointing.

A dark brown barley wine with a thin brown head. In aroma, dark fruits, soy sauce, molasses, raisins and alcohol, some tobacco notes. In mouth, a smooth silky sweet malt with licorice, covering the mouth with British hops, classic and smooth. As usual, the St-Bock high octane offerings are top notch. On tap at St-Bock, Nov. 13 2010.

Bottle thanks to Overml01. Very simple yet powerful barleywine. Pours almost jet black with no head. Nose is raisins, figs, dark fruits, maple syrup, molasses and brown sugar. Taste is the same. A true raisin bomb. Barely noticed the booze.

O. M. G. This one is definitely different. Bottle at Churchkey. Very black with no head and scant lacing. It has legs!! A rare sight in beers. Aroma is peppermint candy and sweat socks, certainly unique. Flavor starts with root beer candy - those barrel-shaped hard candy things you used to get as a kid; then it progresses to toffee and butterscotch.. Amazing.
