Rhythm & Blues is based on a English style barley wine. Giving it a strong maltsweet character with lots ripe yellow fruits and vanilla from barrel aging. Flavour indication: ripe yellow fruit, malts.

Medium yellowish, shortlived head, fed by lively carbonated hazy orange-ochre beer. Bourbon nose, alcoholic, vanilla & oakbomb; faint hint @ liquorice, tarragon. Quite sweet & syrupy. Sweet-woody, hints at chocolate and praliné/ganache. Again (heavy) tell-tale signs of Bourbon, with all the specs - yet not overly sweet let alone cloying. Ripe banana, hints of incense. Well-bodied, but remaining short of truly viscous (the carbonation?) Oily it, velvety; alcoholwarming. Another very good B.W., despite the heavy Bourbon stamp, still very enjoyable and even drinkable.

Bottle . Pours rather unclear blonde. Some flakes on the bottom, but not more than exceptable . Good white head . Smell is sharp , grainy, bit bourbon but its very hidden . Taste is sharp , full sweet grains, with oaky bourbon , also on the grainy, vanilla side . Very sweet in total , but just not over the top . fruity, even . Nice one . Some hidden bitterness in the back .

From tap at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki. Hazy orange-amber color with small off-white head. Aroma is malty, caramel, wood and vanilla, fruity. Taste is sweet and light bitter, caramel, vanilla, bubblegum, light fruity. Medium oily body with soft carbonation and spicy alcoholic finish.

Sample at SBWF ’14. Bottle. Almost clear golden liquid with small white head. Aroma of acetic acid, grain, dried fruit and green apples. Taste is dry and light sour with notes of acetic acid, wine and wood. Light to medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Pretty damn broken for a BW. Weird as hell.

33 cl. bottle sampled @ Modeste 2014. Amber, orange, small tanned head. Nose is varnish, flowers, bourbon, lots of bitter orange. Very thin taste, heavy bitter orange flowers, varnish, strange grapefruit, paint thinner, quite bitter orange peel, vanilla, bourbon, varnish-like wood. Quite thin body,… Strange barley wine, thin, heavy on orange peel bitter, flavours don’t really mix. I’m not the biggest fan.

Bottle, Beer Moth, Manchester. Dark amber pour with a small white head. Nose revealed notes of caramel malts, fruits and wood. Some barrel character present in the sweet flavour. alongside some vanilla and booze. Dried out somewhat towqrds the finish. Not my favourite De Molen offering but its an above average barley wine.

Bottle shared at chriso’s. Pours clear, bright gold with a frothy white head. Some lightly stinging alcohol in the nose, ripe citrus, pine needles. Medium sweet flavor with some infection tang, tart citrus, mild bready sugars. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Tangy citric finish with elements of orange, lemon, some wood. Not bad overall, if a bit atypical.
