Legend has it that Old Engine Oil was dedicated to our head brewer’s love of classic cars. But it’s the thick, dark, chocolatey viscosity that reveals the real inspiration behind the name.

Creamy light brown head left a cover on a jet black oily body. Malt, berry & roast aroma. Medium bodied, smooth to the fore with a sharp back. Roasted, burnt, pith, tangy citrus & bitter berry tastes

Cask at Cross Keys. Dark brown bubbly golden head. Aroma is chocolate, bit of cream, slight fruity pluminess. Taste is nice, smooth and sweet. Chocolate again, vanilla, bit roasty, hint of something floral, small amount of sweet fruitiness. Pretty solid beer. Might actually prefer the lower alcohol version.

Bottle at the Dean Swift. Dark black and thick with a little beige head. Aroma is oaty, liquorice, coffee liqueur and chocolate. Taste is warming, but with a little bit of bitterness. Biscuit malt too. Tastes like it is much stronger than 6%! Nice beer. --- Beer merged from original tick of Old Engine Oil (Bottle) on 02 Oct 2020 at 13:41 - Score: 7. Original review text: Soy sauce, umami, malty, bit of sweetness. Quite nice for a supermarket can.

Bottle from Lithy. Almost black and opague. Dark chocolate, roast, caramel and apple syrup in the aroma and flavor. Hint of licorice. Creamy and velvety. Sweet, delicious but not too complex.

Bottle at a tasting. Malt centered, quite complex, chocolate, coffee, light caramelly. Balance of deep roast bitterness and malty sweetness. Rather full body, moderate carbonation. Very good.

Fles 33cl thuis. Zwart. Flink roasted malts, bitters en zoeten wisselen elkaar af, espresso, pure chocolade, caramel, tonen van laurier, volle smaak voor 6%. Goede balans. Erg lekker. (1-12-2018).
