Legend has it that Old Engine Oil was dedicated to our head brewer’s love of classic cars. But it’s the thick, dark, chocolatey viscosity that reveals the real inspiration behind the name.

Bottle. Now bafflingly calling itself a 'black ale. Nose is dark chocolate, vanilla, hint of cherry, dark fruit. Taste is chocolate, earth, hint of cola, toast, toasted malt, bitter herbal hop note, slight soy, a little dark fruit, hazelnut. Nut notes become very pronounced as the beer opens up. Very smooth mouthfeel.

Thuis uit een flesje op 3-11-18 met Jan, Arja en M. Zwart van kleur, uitstekend schuim. Een goede porter, met een stevige bittere nasmaak. Lekker.

Malt, chocolate and roasted aroma. Black color, long brownish head. A little too sweet, medium bitterness in the middle and lasted long in the end. Full body, sticky.

Bottle, 0.33l, shared with Kristjan. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and caramel. Pours pitch black color with thin creamy light brown head and nice lacing. Taste starts with sweet and rich roasted malt and chocolate, follows by licorice, nuts, pumpkin seeds and mild bitter finish. Full body, oily texture and soft carbonation in palate. Real engine oil...

Draught at Taps Beer Bar, Changkat, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a clear dark brown with a big frothy, long-lasting, off white head. The aroma is roasty malt, coffee, liqouirce. The flavour is light sweet liquorice bitter with a smooth, roasty, smoky, charcoal, coffee, dark chocolate, liqouirce hop palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

At a tasting, many thanks, smallish head, clear very dark brown color, aroma of toasted dark bread with roasted, burned and muddy hints, flavor of charcoal, charred bread and very dark bitter chocolate, empathic bitternes. Off center, but very nice and enjoyable.
